“Lovely location, but.....”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

Stayed for our friends wedding, stayed 3 nights at the end of two weeks in SA,
The Positives - really lovely looking site, totally fantastic beds, masses of hot water, big room, good laundry service/cost
The Negatives- all our interactions with staff were painful to say the least. The staff were unable to use their credit card machine, the whole booking process was painful, asked to pay up in advance the moment we walked into check in, housekeeping wanted to clean our room when we had a 'do not disturb' sign on the door and were somewhat put upset we wanted to keep them waiting for 10mins will we got ready to go out, the smell of sewage was everywhere, the smell of it from the shower was awful, half a bottle of bleach did not touch it, also the stench at breakfast made me want to gag, wi-fi was advertised on the website, but did not work in the room, you had to sit in the garden by reception, also painfully slow to do anything, breakfast a 300mm walk down the road, breakfast at very best acceptable, floor was a death trap, slippy wasn't the word,

As I said, we stayed for a wedding, had we just been guests, we would have moved out after a single night.....we did not want to create a fuss....... Find somewhere else to stay.....

Room Tip: One that does not smell too bad......

We stayed for a wedding and although the location is stunning and the accommodation quite tasteful and nice looking, bed comfortable, good air con and well appointed, the service was non-existent and it felt, for the money, like things had been done somewhat on the cheap. No service at all after 5pm, concrete floor in the bedroom a bit grubby looking, quite a few bugs coming in from outside because doors and windows not that well fitted, pillows like bricks. room not restocked with glasses and mugs etc after cleaning, electrics a bit dubious with wires stuck together with gaffer tape. We had been somewhat spoilt by stunning villa with impeccable quality and service the week before which worked out the same price per night so were probably feeling a bit grumpy, having been treated like royalty all week.

Lovely comfortable room overlooking the lake and mountains, a great value spa that exceeded all expectations. The wines are excellent as was the wine tasting followed by a beautiful meal in the restaurant, best meal on our trip to SA. Very good value for money too. Would highly recommend.

Whether settling my child at Maties, work or pleasure with my wife, Banhoek Lodge was very comfortable and well appointed. The Zorgvliet wines are superb, and Le Pommier restaurant was a great place to dine at the end of the day. Breakfasts at Banhoek were really good, and the service, well they could have not made more effort.

The road is nearby, but I did not notice the traffic. Wireless reception in the rooms was poor, and that would put me off booking again.

Room Tip: There are various options. Banhoek had some really good verhandas overlooking the vinyards. Check wh...

Nestled just below the towering Simonsberg mountain, the Zorgvliet Vineyard is likely the most beautiful of the vineyards in Stellenbosch. Everything, from the immaculate rooms, professional and friendly staff made me feel like I had always been a part of this little bit of paradise.

The Le Pommier restaurant, which supports the community through their near distance food program, has a menu of choice that that is heaven-on-earth. Great presentation with very tasty and rich food - try the pootjie kos!!

And do not forget the wine tasting - you will quickly agree with the spans of awards the vintner has won (including winning top honors from fellow winemakers!)

We didn't stay in the accomodation, so I can't comment on that. But we did go to their spa and had such a miserable experience that I felt compelled to leave a review.

The promised treatment was sold at 2 hours, but lasted about an hour; we were kept waiting by the therapists who were late; the treatment room was open and shared (thank heavens I was just with my mother, otherwise we would have been left half naked in front of other stangers with no privacy, not even a curtain to cordone off the areas); the room was dingy and old fashioned (hardly luxurious); the bathrooms had other people's dirty used towels lying on the floor; nowhere to put out clothes when we changed out of them ("oh, just dump them on the floor in the corner over there"), head massage consisted of a load of gloopy product smeared over my (clean!) hair; amateurish pedicure with polish painted all over the cuticles; the list goes on.

I had taken my mother for a day in the winelands as a treat and we both left feeling very disappointed and short-changed. And it was not cheap for what we got. Meh!
