Summerwood Guest House

Certificate of Excellence

Summerwood is so creatively done up. It has a luxury boutique hotel feel to it with its charming and quirky interior decor. The pool is huge and looked like great fun. We didn't get any time to try it out since we were there only for a night but it certainly looked inviting. You can even use their bicycles to move around this maple lined campus town. The rooms are done up in grey, silver and dash of colour. Very contemporary and super fun. The bathroom is a tad small but no real complains there. Since we had to leave at 7 the next morning they packed us a very good breakfast. The owners have really done a great job and their service too was very warm. A big thumbs up. Keep up the good work.

We stayed for our honeymoon and had the best room at the top with stunning views all around. The tub was great to relax in and the bed was very comfortable. The guest house staff was inviting from the moment we walked in and helped us plan our visits to wineries and local places to eat. We wish we could have stayed longer and would definitely return should we have the chance to visit South Africa again.

My husband and I stayed at Summerwood in July for one night. The staff are very professional and friendly and the guesthouse is immaculate, a credit to everyone who works there. You can mingle with other guests in the welcome lounge which has complimentary tea & coffee and very nice home made cake.

The room we stayed in was clean, warm and heated before we arrived, which was very welcoming in South Africa's winter. The room décor of white and soft grey was very modern and clean. Our room overlooked the pool in the front garden. We commented to each other that a family could have a week's stay here and the children could have lots of safe fun in the pool, while the parents lounged nearby.

The breakfast room has a blackboard message worth a read! I won't spoil it and tell you what it says. The breakfast choices are plentiful and very good.

I would thoroughly recommend Summerwood Guesthouse to anyone wanting to stay close to town in a quiet street with secure parking. 10 out of 10!

Deciding on a weekend get-away, we arrived on a cold and wet Friday. Zonia came to our car, parked in secure parking to warmly greet us. She arranged to take our luggage to our and invited us into the lounge for a hot beverage and scones or if we preferred a glass of liquid pleasure, wines from the region of Stellenbosh. Zonia told us a bit about the place and the surrounding restaurants and we asked that she should recommend one. She called and made a booking, a table closest to the fireplace. So reservations all set, she escorted us to our room (room 8, situated on the top floor with beautiful mountain views, the best room in my opinion by far). Being a cold day, the room was preheated and I immediately felt warm and very relaxed. The bed was nice and toasty with the electric 'blankie' on preheat and a soft bed blanket for added heat could be used but was not needed. Thre room also boasts of a big flat screen TV, complimentary sherry, kettle with coffee and tea and a mini fridge. Accommodation was clean with brilliant white crisp linen and fluffy white towels for use. The The bathromm had ample toiletries and was filled daily and the white toweling bath robes was just an added touch of decadence. Decor, classic and modern and some displays, proudly South African. Great staff, great experience, great accommodation. I recommend Summerwood Guest House if you're looking for an experience to remember. Well done Zonia, Tessa and staff, including the behind the scene staff who were warm and friendly and went the extra mile when breakfast was served. A trip I will remember with five star treatment in a five start establishment. Thank you Summerwood!! Solomon Party

Room Tip: Room 8, great for privacy and fantastic mountain views.

We stayed at Summerwood while attending a conference in Stellenbosch from 14 - 18th July. What a fabulous place. The owners and staff are accommodating and sensitive to requests and the decor, cleanliness and facilities are beautiful and comfortable. Thank you to Tessa, Cornie and staff we were made to feel welcome and the homemade goodies and coffee/tea available added to the exceptional facilities on offer.

We cannot recommend the guesthouse highly enough - they are deserved winners of any awards.

Room Tip: Our room at the top of the building (#8) was outstanding.

I stayed in stellenbosch with a large group of friends and we were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door when we were offered tea and home made apple and poppy seed cake. The guest house is perfectly proportioned in that it is large enough to feel luxurious and yet small enough to feel personal. Each bedroom slept two people with gorgeous and relaxing decor. The attention to detail was noticeable throughout.of the house. (Hint.. if you can.. ask for the room on the top floor.. no. 8 as this had by far the best views of surrounding landscape and a feeestanding bath!) Breakfast was lovely and had a wide variety. We had dinner in stellenbosch each night... which is within walking distance (roughly 10mins). U fortubately we stayed in winter amd it was too cold to swim but the pool looked lovely as we had tea on the terrace. Overall a fantastic stay ... we left relaxed and rejuvinated!

We had the most amazing time in Summerwood, all the staff were so helpful and friendly. We were greeted on arrival with tea, coffee and freshly baked cake. The rooms and and bathrooms were impeccably clean and had everything we needed. There was a lovely lounge area where you could use the computer facilities, listen to an extensive collection of CDs or read the daily paper or a selection of books. The outdoor patio was ideal to sit in the sun with a coffee despite us visiting in the winter season. I really cannot recommend this guesthouse highly enough! 5 stars!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
If you’re looking for that rare blend of contemporary comfort and old-fashioned hospitality, Summerwood Guesthouse is the perfect base from which to explore the soulful town of Stellenbosch and surrounding winelands. This late-Edwardian grand dame was built in 1904 and has since been creatively renovated to cater for the cosmopolitan tastes of the modern traveller. With its large swimming pool and location in a leafy suburb of Stellenbosch, Summerwood has become the go-to choice for visitors looking for something less formal than a hotel, but more luxurious than your run-of-the-mill guesthouse. The eight spacious rooms boast upmarket finishes and are tastefully decorated in neutral tones, while nice extras like bicycles with which to explore the charming town, air-conditioning, free WiFi, and secure off-street parking make it hard to compete with Summerwood in terms of value for money. This family-run guesthouse is a lush haven for the sophisticated traveller that seamlessly integrates the privacy and comfort of a guesthouse with the professionalism of friendly, efficient service.
