Owner description: The urban sprawl of Stellenbosch comes to an abrupt halt, in its south-western suburb of Onderpapegaai, when you enter the gates of Middelvlei. Suddenly, before you lies a beautiful vineyard-strewn amphitheatre overlooking the Bottelary Hills and the upper reaches of Devon Valley. This is the home of the Momberg family, who have been wine farmers since 1919.Join in the Boerebraai fun at Middelvlei where our resident braai expert will prepare your chops, boerewors and chicken sosaties to perfection. As if the appetising aromas of roosterkoek and braaibroodjies are not enough, Ben's homemade pâté and Ouma Annie's pumpkin fritters have placed the Middelvlei Braai in a league of its own.

A fantastic place to try the great wines of South Africa. The Free Run Pinotage is magnificent. The food is very nice especially the sausage

We enjoyed a thoroughlying enjoyable braai (BBQ) type meal which was served in typical old farm style hospitality. The food was tasty and plentiful the atmosphere relaxed and seducive. Plenty of playing areas for kids as well as a little petting zoo and aviary. The views are magnificent and tranquil forcing you to slow down and enjoy the country living.

This was the third shop of five in the day, and was timed for the lunch-time and included a Braai (BBQ). It was a fairly good braai, with wines taken as part of it. The wines were nice, although not my favourites of the day. Overall it was a good winery and worth a visit.

Came here to experience the often spoken about South African braai. The setting - an idyllic farm with play areas for kids and a chance to feed the farm animals. We had to pay for a bag of animal feed - something which I felt shouldn't be charged for as it was a farm, not
a zoo. Food was yummy South African fare - snoek pate was delicious, chicken sosaties and the lamb were good. Previous reviews raved about the portions, I didn't feel they were especially big - just adequate for a person. We didn't do wine tasting as we had already visited other vineyards, but we had a bottle of Pinotage which was great. Service was a bit slow and our food took a while to come. Hence the four stars.

Thank you very much for your review. Please accept my apologies that you had to wait for your food. We try to put the food on the braai when we take out the starter. Apologies that the timing did not work as planned. Hope to soon welcome you back at Middelvlei.

Went to Middelvlei with a couple of friends for my birthday one Saturday. This was a great spot. Well done to all of you for the amazing boere braai and wine tasting combination. We will certainly be back soon. Keep up the good work.
