“Wine tasting under the early winter vines.”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

We visited Rust en Vrede on a Saturday and enjoyed the 5 wine tasting option seated at the cafe tables out on the patio. The vines overhead were turning to red and views of the mountains beyond were framed by the ancient oak trees on the lawns. The wines we tasted were excellent and the venue was very pleasant. We succumbed to the tempting menu offer of the Winemaker's Lunch - thick juicy char grilled steak with a heap of wonderful crunchy matchstick fries and a dressed salad accompanied by a glass of the estate shiraz. If the steak is anything to go by, the chef is seriously good, so we are planning a return visit to the restaurant itself.

“Rest & Peace”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

The estate is at the end of the road, the deepest among a series of Stellenbosch wineries. The name Rust en Vrede is Dutch meaning "Rest & Peace", and the place seems true to its name with its peaceful surroundings in the hills. Unfortunately we didn't have time to try its famous restaurant, but we did do a round of nice wine-tasting while sitting in the shady garden under the trees.

“Delicious in every way!”
Reviewed May 15, 2013

Whilst staying at a nearby spa, my mum and I were treated to a meal at this beautiful estate... The service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing and we had a lovely evening.
The ease with which they catered to our slightly challenging dietary requirements was refreshing - they tailored the menu to each of our needs to create a delicious and creative meal.
We were also delighted to be able to contribute to a local charity via a small addition to our bill.
The only slight disappointment was that their amazing wine list didn't include any local fizz!

“Doesn't Get Any Better”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Our family of 4 had a wonderful meal here whilst staying in Stellenbosch in April. The food was divine, the service was lovely and the price was a welcome change from what we would pay back home. Highly recommend.

“Fantastic experience and a must do when you visit Stellenbosch”
Reviewed April 28, 2013 via mobile

Recently visited here after a South African friend recommended doing so on a visit to SA. He was right and it was a fantastic experience.

We started with a tour of the cellar where they explained the way in which it starts from grapes till wine, how to store it, what to look for in wine etc...look out for 2012 and 2013 SA wine as the conditions and harvests were perfect!

We then enjoyed a wine tasting of some fantastic wines and it was next to nothing price wise to do so. The grounds and location are again stunning and we decided to stay for lunch which I will write a separate review for as was the best steak I had in SA.

Our wine guide was helpful and knowledgeable and after tasting some of the great wines we decided that the 1694 vintage was a must have a both my friend and I bought bottles!

Great experience, fantastic location, wines and restaurant. Make this a place you visit when in the area!
