“Quaint and historic”
Reviewed August 1, 2013

Wish there had been more shops, but the galleries and stores that were there were fun to pop into and enjoy. Love the historic charm of the street.

“Touristy Shops”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

Stellenbosch is a pretty wealthy city surrounded by beautiful vineyards and mountains but most of the shops on Dorp St sold trinkets reminiscent of typical tribal Africa (wooden spoons, lions, etc). I had hoped the items on this street would more reflect what you actually experience in Stellenbosch.

“Historical”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Had few time to know the place, and it was after the working hours, so couldn't find many places open. But it's very nice to walk on the street and watch all the historical buildings and places.

“Great atmosphere, heaps to see and do”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

We dropped into Dorp St just to see what Stellenbosch was like. This has a great atmosphere with numerous cafes to take in the ambience. Highly recommend as a Sunday morning visit.

“Cape Dutch architecture”
Reviewed May 12, 2013

Dorp Street is famous for its whitewashed single storey houses, in the old Cape Dutch style. They are possibly best viewed towards the Western end, where there is little commercial development and it's quieter. The famous Oom Samie se Winkel shop - a mix of antiques and souvenirs - is worth a quick visit but, dare I say it, I got the best cup of coffee in the BP petrol station across the road!
