We enjoyed one night at this great hotel in the Winelands! When checking in we were served a chilled glass of the estates Rosè and then showed to our room with a private terrace and a large well-equipped bathroom. So comfy! The outdoors area was beautiful with a view of some mountains.. We had dinner at the restaurant, it was delicious! We'll be coming back! =) The breakfast was excellent! Good value for money.

Tucked away in the beautiful countryside and vineyards just outside of Stellenbosch is the Devon Valley Hotel. We were impressed from the moment we arrived in reception and the security guard had called ahead with our name so there was no searching for the reservation like at every other hotel we've stayed in. I know it's a little thing but it was nice to walk up to the desk and have paperwork already waiting for our signature. Christopher did a great job of checking us in, informing us about breakfasts, the property and answering our questions about shuttles, etc and off we went to our room....it was very spacious and tastefully decorated with a beautiful view from the sliding glass doors. The king bed was wonderful and the pillows were so incredibly comfy! Like the bedroom, the bathroom is large as well with a lovely free standing tub complete with a bath salts and a wire rack....perfect place for a glass of vino!. Word to the wise with regard to the shower (at least in our room...52) .....there is a rainshower head mounted in the ceiling but there is also a removable handheld shower head mounted on the wall. There is a knob between the hot and cold water knobs which controls where the water comes out. Make sure it's turned such that the water comes out of the rainshower head!!!! It's very powerful and if it comes out of the handheld device, the force of the water lifts the handheld from the mount and spray all over the bathroom walls, ceiling, window, toilet and a poor unsuspecting husband as well!!!

We took a walk around the grounds and meandered down to one of the two pools....all of the paths are lined with gorgeous flowers and plants. On the way to the pool there's a little bench surrounded by dense plants and trees and it's so peaceful and serene.

We ate dinner on the terrace at Flavours and my husband and I each enjoyed our meals taking in the views and listening to two young men play the sax and guitar with some vocals thrown in as well. I had a delicious piece of cob (tender white delicately flavored fish) with a really light lime pistachio sauce that was perfect...it didn't over power the fish and hubby had springbok with a sauce that had blueberries (and something else which escapes me) in it. He was a little worried about whether or not he'd like the sauce but it complimented that springbok beautifully. The amarula creme brulee was the perfect ending to my meal and my husband said the red velvet cake was to die for. Senziwe (sp?) took excellent care of us even as we moved our table not once, not twice, but THREE times to get downwind of a very heavy cigarette smoker! The general manager, Andrew Dietrich, was constantly making sure the diners were happy with the food, with the service, with everything. You could tell he genuinely cared about the guests and the hotel. When we arrived back at our room, there was a very nice cheese/fruit platter and wine awaiting us. Not sure if that's something they do for all guests or because we're SVC Elite members or what but it was another very nice touch!

The following day we went to the Stellenbosch Wine Festival and since we planned to do a LOT of wine tasting, we didn't want to drive. I'd read a comment here on TripAdvisor by Andrew mentioning that they can arrange a shuttle into Stellenbosch for a nominal fee. We took advantage of that we were dropped and picked up right by the festival and it was only R120 each way (total for 2....WELL worth it!)

There is a brick oven out on the terrace and we figured the pizzas must be great because the poor pizza chefs NEVER got a break. We decided to give them a try and we were very glad we did. We had a "chicken run" and "The Feast" and truly couldn't tell you which one was better. The crust was crispy and thin and the toppings were delish!

On our last morning we tried the buffet since it seemed really popular with the guests. They had pretty much everything you could want for breakfast....cereals, yoghurt, eggs, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, beans, potatoes, pastries, toast, juices and an assortment of fruit/cheese/meats and smoked salmon. All very tasty...especially for buffet food!

When it was time to check out, Kelvin remembered that we'd gone to the wine festival the previous day and asked how it was. One more little touch that really made this hotel stand out in my mind.

If you go to the Devon Valley Hotel and you do not have a good experience, I would have to say it's your own fault. I truly believe that if there is anything that a guest is unhappy with, the staff and general manager will go above and beyond to make it right. It's very obvious from the moment you arrive that their guests are their priority and they want you to enjoy your stay with them.

I know we will be back for repeat visits and will bring friends/family as well.

I stayed at the hotel whilst running an event there. The facilities for running a business meeting are not the greatest but the positive attitude and friendliness of the service made up for any shortcomings. The Devon Valley Hotel has a lovely terrace for a beer at the end of the working day, or a glass of their own exceptional wine. The food in the restaurant is excellent (with wine recommendations) and they have a wood fired pizza oven as a bonus. There are many opportunities to taste wines locally and the town of Stellenbosch is only a very short drive away so it's a great place if you want to chill out and relax for a few days.

My stay at Devon Valley was a real treat, all that can be expected from a weekend away in the Cape Winelands. We started the weekend with pizza, wine and live music on the terrace, enjoying the sunset. Saturday morning we enjoyed a hike and spent the afternoon relaxing on the loungers by the pool area. I highly recommend their Sunday buffet. I look forward to our return.

I will start with the room, M1 in the Old Part. It was like going back in time, old colonial feel. Massive 4 poster bed, large bathroom with "his and hers" shower plus a large bath. The patio doors opened onto a private area it had fantastic views especially to wake up to. There was a private small pool to the rear with a few beds which was part of the price, we paid extra for this but the other guests tried to use it. Not surprising as the main pool was half full of leaves. The food was of a good standard but they needed a "snack menu" because sometimes we did not want a full meal as we had eaten at lunchtime. Pizzas etc all week would have been good. It needs a bit of TLC to bring it up to a better standard. The staff were great, especially our housekeeper, she folded our clothes and put them away every day. Would I stop there again? probably as it was close to the town without being in the centre.

Having been to Stellenbosch before and also visited Devon Valley Hotel for a wine tasting, we chose this Hotel with some confidence. Added to this was the excellent room rate we got, which was 3 nights for the price of 2, a bottle of wine and breakfast.

On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist. Our room key and wifi password issued. (wifi is not free at the hotel). However they have two computers which have internet access and are free to use. A concierge took us to our room and carried our bags.

We chose the new block of rooms that overlook a vineyard. They are obviously called Vineyard Rooms. (pics attached). We had ground floor room 38. The rooms are very spacious, I really liked the sliding wood shutter doors that separate the bathroom. These can be opened fully to create one large open space. The rooms are well equipped. The bathroom has twin sinks, hairdryer, separate walk in shower with a rainfall style head unit and a stand alone bath. The bed is king size which is very comfortable. There is a free to use safe, TV with some satellite stations, tea and coffee making facilities. There is aircon that is free and the unit was surprisingly quiet when running. The room was very clean and the sheets felt of good quality cotton. They have a turn down service, but if you are in your room already they hand you a small pack of Biscotti, a nice little touch.

I recommend the ground floor as you have a patio with table and chairs. Each evening we enjoyed sitting outside with a bottle of wine and watched the sun set over the hills.

The Hotel itself is excellent. On a Friday and Saturday they open the outside Pizza oven. We had a lovely handmade Pizza. The bar serves good food and reasonably priced. We did not use the Flavours Restaurant.

Breakfast is buffet style, served in the main dining room and has hot and cold options. Breakfast was very good with all food fresh and appetising. A big bonus is you can eat as much as you like!!

I recommend doing their wine tasting. You can sit at the outside patio and the wine waiter will come to you and explain about their Wine in an informal and informative way.

The Hotel is ideally situated as it is close to Stellenbosch but far enough out to be a quiet retreat. A car is essential though.

I believe Devon Valley Hotel has all the facilities you would need for a few nights stay. You will not be disappointed.
