Owner description: Waterford Estate is situated in one of the world's most visually arresting pockets of paradise. Nestled in the picturesque Blaauwklippen Valley, in the world renowned Stellenbosch region, this 120 hectare property owned by Jeremy and Leigh Ord and managed by partner and Cellar master Kevin Arnold. The Estate boasts old citrus groves, rolling lawns, water features and fragrant lavender and rosemary beds. You'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the heart of Provence or the Spanish countryside, with your first glimpse of this enchanting realm. However, we are immensely proud of our uniquely South African location and the rich diversity of our indigenous flora and fauna. The winery was styled along the engaging terracotta design and was the result of winemaker Kevin Arnold and architect Alex Walker teaming up to create the home of Waterford Estate wines. The centre piece of the magnificent courtyard is the Waterford Estate fountain. This feature has been immortalized in the Waterford Estate label and represents a fundamental component of our philosophy. We believe in the old adage of 'less is more'. There is nothing pretentious or ostentatious about the estate, rather the visual impact is one of a seamless whole, which complements rather than detracts from the surrounding natural beauty. Welcome to our world, a world where the passing of time and the change in seasons only add rich layers of character and charm to the scene.

“Charming wine estate”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

We arrived in Cape Town on Saturday after a long 19 hour journey from New York. We arrived at our destination, showered, changed into fresh clothes and had a few hours to tour the area in the late afternoon around 3:00. Since we were staying near Stellenbosch, we decided to take a drive into the wine country. Having heard of the Waterford estate, we simply followed some signs along the major route that wends its way through the wine country and easily found the Waterford winery. We were happy to see that it was still open at 3:45 since many of them close early on Saturday. After parking our car, our lovely "greeter" invited us into the winery (we were too late for the tour) to sample the wines in a very cozy setting. We opted for the 8 wine tasting menu (4 whites and 4 reds plus three chocolates for the last two reds and a dessert wine), While only one of the wines really suited our taste (their cabernet), we did enjoy the final dessert wine with the chocolates and the entire experience of sttting in this lovely, warm setting on our first afternoon in South Africa. We also had some time to take a walk through the vineyard which was quite beautiful.

“Beautifully kept estate”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

We arrived on a soggy winter's day to a blazing fire. The tasting was excellent, as are the wines, which we'd already been recommended at Bukkhara on the Waterfront. The chocolate tasting was fun, and the pudding wine and choco amazing - family reserve Heatherleigh is stunning. A definite for a visit - just sad we can't import to the UK.

“Repeat Offenders”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

My wife, son and I recently returned from another trip to Waterford. It is so relaxing there to sit in the courtyard and drink wine. We too would recommend the chocolate and wine pairing.

The staff are always nice and helpful. The wines are wonderful and several bottles made it into our luggage for the trip back to Angola.

Look forward to our return trip on October.

When you drive up to Waterford Estate you will understand why I say it’s one of the most beautiful wine estates in Stellenbosch. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing – and you must try the chocolate and wine pairing – really excellent.

“Tuscan feel in the heart of Cape winelands.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2012

When I drove up to Waterford I was surprised to see a beautiful Tuscan style building.
On entering we were promptly welcomed by our friendly tasting hostess who seated us in the large courtyard. We did the full standard tasting (R40) with the addition of the Gem their flagship (extra R50). Their wines were good but not the best in the Helderberg region. If you are interested in the full wine and choc experience this is definitely the place for you. The service was excellent, the setting was pleasant even if I could not see the mountain!
