We checked into Dornier and it was beautiful. We went to the main house and it is huge. Then we found out the four of us were the only people who were staying there. That's not a bad thing. The bad thing is there are only small electric heaters in the room. The rooms are large and can't be warmed with a small heater when it gets down to about 40. One bathroom did not have hot water so that couple had to walk down an unseated hall to another bathroom to shower. There is no staff at night in attendance. We had to leave after one night. There is no air conditioning here either so don't go here when the weather is warm.

The welcome was super friendly. The room was spacious, very clean and even had WiFi. Had a great sleep as the bed was comfy and it was absolutely quiet. In the morning had a good breakfast at the Bodega about 100 meters from the house. My only regret is that I stayed for just one night.

The Dornier Homestead has retained much of it's historical character. The mansion offers generous space, complete with entrance hall, library room, terrace and gardens. Overall setting is wonderful, as are the views to the mountain range beyond the vineyards. The location near Stellenbosch makes it a good base to explore the winelands. Would definitely stay here again.

On a recent visit to South Africa and Cape Town, a colleague suggested that I visit Dornier Wine estate in Stellenbosch, and possibly also stayed there. I did just that, and all I can say is, you should do the same!

My wife and I stayed at the Dornier Homestead for 2 nights, and thereby not just experienced a great overnight place to stay, but also 5 meals at the Dornier Bodega. Everything about the stay was a positive experience, from the location of Dornier wine, over the Homestead buildings themselves to the staff.

I strongly recommend visiting Dornier if you travel to Stellenbosch, either for a meal or two, and, if you're really looking for an out of this world experience, an overnight stay combined with some meals.

When my wife and I go back to Cape Town in december 2013, I know for certain where part of our stay will be spent. Yep, you guessed it: Dornier Homestead and Bodega:-)!

We stayed for two nights at the Homestead, and loved every minute of it. The estates themselves are beautiful, and it was a joy just to stroll about and soak it all in. The Homestead itself definitely retains the feel and character of an early 18th century estate house, which we absolutely loved. The staff at Dornier, in particular, deserve special accolades. Everyone from the wait staff at the Bodega restaurant, to the cleaning and grounds crew, to the management were all very friendly and helpful.

We can't wait to go back.

Whoa! What a homestead. Back in the days, it was owned by the famous Dornier family.

Although at times you might see that wine making is their core business, everything was like it should have been. Impressive visit!
We had the annex room, which is fine. It means that you don't have your own bathroom, but as this is a huge homestead it feels like you don't have to share the bathroom.

One point of criticism: as the manager who normally is responsible for the homestead guests wasn't there during our stay, another manager (of the bodega) had to take care of us.
Although this manager was very keen to make our stay memorable, she unfortunately had absolutely no clue how to handle the homestead guests (different price categories for the rooms, included breakfast, no idea what it meant to have booked via agoda.com etc.). As she didn't seem to pay close attention when we as the guests explained some of the above mentioned aspects, we experienced several to us very uncomfortable moments (and in between we were already doubting our English pronunciation (my wife is translator for English)).

Summary: beautiful, 5 stars!

A beautifully renovated property on one of the best wine farms. Scenic walks and one of the best restaurants in Stellenbosch next door. We were sorry to have to leave this gorgeous house.
