Description: Airy and light, the restaurant overlooks lush gardens and leads onto a sheltered terrace for alfresco dining. It is in this stimulating setting that resident chef Lucas Carstens presents his menu of fresh, modern cuisine grounded in the French classics. Lucas has enormous respect for the quality and provenance of each ingredient that comes into his kitchen and takes pride in working with ethical producers and suppliers who share his philosophy of excellence. Complementing Makaron Restaurant is M Bar, an inviting lounge-style bar with the decadent ambience of a Parisian salon.

“Amazing quality in a very special ambiance”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2014

We stayed in the hotel and had dinner twice in Makaron. The nice thing is that they also make great vegetarian dishes. Once you get your food, your plate almost looks like a painting. The chef is a real artist. And, even more important, the food tastes excellent. In Europe this restaurant would get a Michelin star.
Sitting at the table it is worthwhile to look around because the ambiance is very special. Don't forget to visit the toilets, because even that is something special.

“Good Ambience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014 via mobile

Food was excellent and interesting. You can pair the dishes with wines, should you want to take the option. The breads are interesting and different butters are sumptuous in the mouth. We had pork and proved to be a brilliant choice.

“Tanya cooks ,Josephine serves great wines”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2014

This is the first time I had been to Makaron,I knew Josephine from her Bosman days and knew she was leaving soon to live on her third continent!!
Her knowledge of wine is amazing, and her bubbly personality just adds to the enjoyment of the evening. After a lovely glass of rose bubbles in the bar,I was seated in the restaurant, this is tastefully decorated more modern than my usual dining haunts! The menu is simple to browse with not too many choices(a positive as everything is freshly made.
I made a mistake in the order of my starters,I had the haddock kedgeree first followed by the trout, the flavours of the kedgeree were spicy and bold whilst the trout was much more subtle. The tastes though were sublime.I had the springbok main which was cooked to perfection the saute potatoes were to die for!!Josphine had obviously been searching the inner reaches of he cellar as she married the wines magically to the food, the red with the Springbok was "divine"
For dessert I had the fifty shades of Chocolate, decadent and morish and meant another hour in the gym,but worth the sacrifice.Tanya emerged from the kitchen with some delectable petit fours. This is a restaurant on the rise, but how will they replace Josephine.....?
Good value for money too!

“Not the first time here.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2014

Had lunch here yesterday being about the fifth visit. I say the same thing each time, whether it is to your taste or not, this chef is amazing and adventurous and exciting with the dishes she comes up with. I have never had a dish that didn't blow me away with originality but more importantly with new flavour combinations
If you are serious about your food you should really give her a try. Must confess I have never had the evening menu but don't see why the same should not apply.
A wide variety of excellent wines to be had.
