We're not keen on tours and we'd been to Stellenbosch before, though a long time ago. But I spotted the Foodies on Foot tour on here and really fancied it. I'm so glad I booked. We spent an entertaining and educational 3 hours with Hanli and her husband who was doing the tour for the first time. It's a great mixture of sightseeing and eating, including possibly the best chocolate cake I've ever had. We wouldn't have found the places without help, especially the tucked- away bakery.it's good to see so many enthusiastic small producers and it's even better to taste their wares. Highly recommended and we'll be booking for a Cape Malay cookery lesson next time.

Hanli provided a really enjoyable, gentle walking tour around Stellenbosch which started with a South African tea ceremony, then wine tasting and then a selection of South African main courses in one restaurant and desserts in another. She was really delightful and made the tour very special - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The food and drink was top notch as well. I would very much recommend this tour.

I can't recommend this tour enough. Aside from providing us with a tasting session of local teas and delicious samples of Stellenbosch's wines and traditional foods in the form of wine-tastings and biltong to go with them, our guide, Hanli, was utterly charming from start to finish - an inexhaustible fount of local knowledge and history, even going so far as to introduce us to her favourite local artist. She always made time for any lingering, never rushed us from place to place, and took us for a truly wonderful lunch in beautiful surroundings.

After doing this walking tour in Stellenbosch, I am more proudly South African than ever before. Hanlie and Simone is excellent guides and I have learned so much more of the history of Stellenbosch and what better way to do it - as with excellent local food, great wines and even 'biltong and droe wors'. This is an excellent tour to learn more about South African cuisine in a fun way and to taste the best of the best. I can highly recommend the Bites and Sites tours to everybody that visit South Africa and even to South Africans! Go and see for yourself.

We had a fantastic time exploring Stellenbosch with our guide Hanli Fourie. Hanli is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide who was able to not just introduce us to South African cuisine but also explain the history and culture of Stellenbosch and to tie these back to the delicious local food, wine and teas of the area.

What made the tour for us was the relaxed personal touch which came with the tour. Hanli picked up on our preferences throughout the day to pair wines that she thought we'd like with our food as well as suggesting restaurants and wine estates for the remainder of our trip.

I can't recommend Bites and Sites enough especially for foodies but also for people who want the opportunity to get to know Stellenbosch better in a way that you'd never manage on your own or with a guidebook.
