This guest house is like a home away from home. The hosts are friendly and incredibly generous. The guesthouse is furnished impeccably. It is conveniently located but not too noisy. Strongly recommended

This is a very beautiful B&B with gorgeous rooms and an even more gorgeous pool you can sit out by. But, the owners didn't really seem that interested in interacting with the guests. I mean, of course they come out and say hi at breakfast, but we stayed in B&Bs all across the Western Cape and here was the only place we stayed where no one offered to make us a dinner reservation, and of course this is Stellenbosch, where the restaurants are very posh and reservations generally a necessity. We're capable of taking care of ourselves, but when you can't turn your phone on for fear of roaming charges it is so nice when your host helps you with a dinner recommendation and then offers to make a reservation. Plus, Stellenbosch is such a foodie place so the array of options was overwhelming, and recommendations would have been very appreciated. The location is not smack in the middle of the center of town, but it's still a very short drive, and you have to drive anyway if you're going to any of the wineries so this was fine.

Hi Caitlin
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on our guesthouse. I am glad that you loved the room and the pool.
Our guests are given maps and directions as well as recommendations to the numerous restaurants.
We are always very happy to make reservations for our guests. Stellenbosch, besides being a food and wine destination is also a student village, so there are many casual dining options where reservations are not necessary.
If you had requested that we make a reservation for you, it would have been absolutely no problem! I am sorry that you felt that we were unwilling to do so.
We look forward to welcoming you to our guesthouse on your next visit to our beautiful village.

Perfect choice - Penelope's provided comfort plus after a long day driving the Garden Route. Our room was great value, most spacious with a wonderful comfortable bed, the bath towels were amazing, luxury plus! Gorgeous stepping out onto a quaint balcony being able to view the amazing garden, obviously tendered with amazing pride - we loved it. Perfect host offering all necessary local info - breakfast was superb, whatever you wanted you could have. Penelope's a definite must visiting Stellenbosch, what's more the photos we see on line for this Guesthouse are exactly as it is - beautiful.
Thank you Jan T

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. It makes me so happy when guests notice all the extra touches, like the towels! (I've even had guests from Holland specially going out to the shop where I bought them to take them back home!)

And yes, I love my garden - and love picking fresh roses for the breakfast tables every morning.
I really hope to see you again n your next visit to Stellenbosch!

Staying at Penelope’s Guesthouse is a definite must. Its location is central and there is no need to drive to far to go and visit a few places. Service was excellent as well as the morning breakfast, yummy! The rooms are very spacious and neatly decorated and you have a stunning view of mountains when you step out onto the patio.

After returning to Penelope's Guest House after our first visit in 2010, the only word that comes to mind for the family run guest house BRAVO. Beautiful, stunning spacious rooms with crisp white linen. Perfect bathrooms, towels are fantastic, would like to find of them ourselves. Nespresso machine in every room is super addition. Eventually a Guest house with proper hair dryers, not like those silly things in the hotels that only make noise. The garden is so incredibly beautiful, Roses everywhere!!! Breakfasts are so nice we could spend the entire days sitting out in the garden eating. Your personnel Sam and Morgan, what assets they are to your guest house, friendly and professional. The personal attention and care was greatly appreciated. Cindy, Molly and Casper add to the feeling of being a home from home. The other guests were also really nice. Location is great away from all the hassle and bustle of city life but close enough if one wants to go for a drive into the winelands or to town or to Cape Town City. We would highly recommend Penelope's Guest House to the sophisticated but also relaxed traveller. Thank you once again for making our stay fantastic.
