We travel to Cape Town once or twice a year and lunch at Morgenhof is a must. Located next to the Stellenbosch to Paarl road it is easy to locate but once on site the road noise is minimal. You can sit outside under the vast umbrellas enjoying the fantastic views or inside. Try the home made quiche, if available, if you are only after a snack - to die for.

We lunched here while on a winetasting day in Stellenbosch, and found the food and setting outstanding. A further lovely touch is their practice of serving a generous tasting glass of the wine that is best suited to each main course. All of our party of six enjoyed their chosen options mine was a very tender kudu steak served with a glass of their top wine, morganhof estate red. It turned out to be one of our top three dining experiences in a fortnight in South Africa

We booked in advance and had a table overlooking the pond and fountain. It was fun to watch the peacocks are we decided on our meal.

We had the duck that was extremely good - though the paté was quite rich. Their rosé 'Fantail' wine was just right for a cool afternoon (~21C) in the shade. Then, with the chocolate pudding, there was a glass of their 'port', also very tasty.

I bought a case of the 'port' and a case of the rosé - only to get home to find that I'd got the red pinotage rather than the rosé pinotage. I wrote to let them know and they dropped of the replacement a few minutes ago - just two days after our visit - I'd got half a dozen bottles of the red pinotage and was delighted to find that this was the same price as 9 bottles of the rosé.

We had the pleasure of celebrating our wedding at Morgenhof Wine Estate. Lets be honest, in South Africa most wine estates offer beautiful aesthetic attraction as a wedding venue. However some fail to deliver on that beauty in the catering department.

That is just simply not the case with Morgenhof Wine Estate. The Restaurant served some of the best food I have had the pleasure of sampling in a long time. Their Salmon Bruschetta was mouthwatering good and their various other canapes, light yet satisfying.

For the main meal they prepared a very generous beef fillet with all the trimmings. Let me say this very clearly to those of you wanting a good steak, this was the best we have had in a long time.

All compliments to Chef Siraaj and his team a job well done to prepare 80 portions in such a short period of time, platted to perfection without so much as one complaint from our guests. If you looking for an evening venue with great food. This is the place to come to.

We booked lunch there while on holiday in CapeTown from Scotland. We have visited other vineyards and been delighted by their beauty, the wine tasting and the food. However, morgen hoof was a disaster! We waited over an hour for the first course then over half an hour for the next course. When the food eventually came it really was disgusting. We were hungry which is why we continued to wait, but oh dear, the steaks were gristly and not cooked to requested style ie the well done one was bloody, there was a lot of fat on them and had veins in them too! I opted for the vegetarian option - which sounded delicious - but sadly did not even slightly resemble what was on the menu, instead it was variation of fatty stodgy slop, I have no idea whether or not this was a bad day for them or not but - we would not return!

A word also about the wine tasting. The wine was not to our taste, so that was a pity, and disappointing also was that there was no alternative 'refreshment' for the non drinkers among us - who just had to sit and wait, not an easy task in blistering sun. The man who brought the wine was robotic, and made no effort to engage us.

To avoid disappointment - I suggest you try elsewhere!
