Description: PANE E VINO's essence is that of an Italian osteria where traditional Italian home style cooking is accompanied with family wines, grappas and a jovial ambience in which patrons visiting again and again end up feeling like part of the family. The food is fresh, uncomplicated and tasty. The family wines grappas along with a selection of regional Italian wines are available for clients to purchase on leaving the premises. “Home away from home”
Reviewed May 1, 2014

I travel a fair amount and when in Stellenbosch, this is my 'office'. I have meetings here, make use of the excellent wifi (pity it is not free...) and generally enjoy the pleasant family atmosphere. The menu is on a chalk board and is fresh every day. It is family run with Giorgio (the WineMaster of Meerlust fame) and George, his son of similar reputation.
Try the 'Giorgio'; red wine - not cheap but really, really good and their new offering 'Teamo' also a superb red.
TIP: I always have the Melanzane parmigiana, a Beef Ragu with layers of Aubergine and parmesan - so traditional, so tasty, so nice, you just want more!

The Coffee is excellent, service just right and it is in a quiet area just outside the main centre next to two wineries, a great baker (Yummie Chef), an ice-cream producer (Cold Gold) and a Deli (Fine Pasteries). Pop into StelleKaya Cellars (next building adjacent) for a wine tasting with award winning Female WineMaster to complete your experience.

“Great Italian Food”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Wonderful little Italian restaurant in Stellenbosch. We shared the deep fried risotto balls for starters and the lasagne and porcini pasta special for primi. The food was amazing! My husband then also ordered the pork with roast potatoes for secondi. Everything was excellent! We'll definitely be back.

Would definitely recommend that you make a reservation, the place was packed on a Saturday afternoon.

“Best Italian food in South Africa”
Reviewed January 3, 2014

Pan e vino: a little, unassuming eatery in Stellenbosch overlooking not much but a parking lot and some trees. But WOW, where do we begin? The service was excellent and the staff went out of their way to move tables from the inside to outside so that we could smoke. A fantastic Italian home atmosphere. Food to die for! Dalla Cia family wines some of the best that South Africa has to offer. Wine (and grappa) tastings available at your table. Giorgio (red blend) and Sauvignon Blanc deserve a special mention. We ate and drank as much as we possibly could to make sure that we did not miss out. A must visit if you are in Stellenbosch.

“Relaxed and professional, fantastic food and wine!”
Reviewed December 30, 2013 via mobile

We had lunch at Pane e Vino yesterday and whilst it is not in your normal Stellenbosch tourist area, it was still nice and quiet. Wonderful decor and a very relaxed atmosphere, the waiting staff gave us the best service during the 6 months we've been in South Africa. This is a great find!

“Best Italian food in the Western Cape!”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

The food, the wine, the grappa, the atmosphere; everything is exceptional and I am transported to the best in Italy every time I go to Pane e Vino. The Dalla Cia family are warm and hospitable and, once I'm there, sipping a delicious wine made by Giorgio, eating the superb food prepared by Elena, followed by some heavenly Grappa made by George, I never want to leave!
