Our Restaurant offers you an utterly enjoyable intimate and friendly dining experience in unpretentious but beautiful surroundings. It is not surprising that the bulk of our clientele are people who have been here before as well as their friends and colleagues who have recommended it. As you dine, you and your guests will enjoy an unbelievable vista of the softly sweeping vineyards and rolling hills of Devon Valley - so reminiscent of their English counterpart - and the pastel-coloured mountains behind them. It is an incomparable view that will help create a pleasurable and utterly memorable experience. You'll also enjoy fine gourmet dishes prepared by Executive Chef, Nadia Louw-Smith, renowned for her impeccably-prepared and delicately spiced dishes that seduce the palate. She is one of the most experienced chefs in the country and has been voted Chef of the Year for her sublime dishes. My husband and I had lunch at this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised.... from the service to the food and of course the beautiful view of the mountainside, it really was a lovely afternoon spent. We chose light meals and shared the vegetarian platter and the cheese platter - both were delicious. The restaurant also offers a four course food and wine tasting menu which a few of the other patrons ordered and from what I could see, it looked fantastic and good value for money!! I would definately recommend this restaurant.

Ten minutes by car or taxi from centre of stellenbosch. If you have neither then walk or crawl-you won't regret it. The food is almost as spectacular as the Italianate view over the clos malvernes vines.
Open for lunch only, the restaurant has an a' la carte menu, but for staggering value choose the 'food and wine pairing' menu featuring their own award-winning wines.
With the Sauvignon blanc - chilli and lime marinated prawns, butternut and goats cheese in a fill pastry pouch, and salmon gravlax on avocado, cress and wasabi base. Sublime opener.
With the Cabernet/Shiraz - port soaked chicken livers. Pork belly with home tasting crackling and then springbok carpaccio on rocket, roast tomatoes and Macedonia nuts.
If you stopped just there you'd only have spent £20 for two!!
But you can't! We passed on the steaks or grilled fish but begged dispensation to experience clos malverne's ice cream and wine pairings.(recommended by a local friend) Sounds unlikely? So does fig, lemon and chilli ice cream matched with Sauvignon blanc. Apple crumble ice cream. Cinnamon tones against pinotage red. Tomato and thyme ice cream left me unfazed. But it was a feint, to leave you defenceless when the white chocolate, macedemia nut and coffee ice cream knocks you out. And that's only the autumn selection! Changes with the seasons.
Service-smiling and smooth. Final verdict? The perfect lunch.

Clos Malverne's excellent four course menu with wine pairing is arguably the best value for money you can get in the Winelands. The food is very good, and there is a nice variety to chose from. The wines are totally fine, except for maybe the Pinotage which is served with the dessert. However, you can ask to have it replaced without any problem=great service. The restaurant is beautifully located with gorgeous surroundings. The staff are happy and service minded. With your meal, you also get a discount voucher for the spa. I’ve tried it a couple of times and can recommend it to those who are staying in the area.

Finally, my parents actually had their wedding reception here and everything was so nice and well organized. Big thanks to Nicolette and the rest of the team!

Went for lunch. Nice experience. Definitely value for money! And a good view.

Menu is quite fusion style, was not expecting that.

But good ideas overall.

Would return.

Clos Malverne offers really outstanding value in its menu with paired wines. Anywhere else in the world we would be doing handstands at such quality for under $25 USD per person. But Stellenbosch is a paradise for foodies and winies, and there are significantly better knockout food and wines available elsewhere.

The Clos Malverne sauvignon blanc is a middle-of-the-pack white and there are better whites at Jordan, or Spier, or Guardian Peak. Better chicken livers at Lanzarac, likewise mains at Jordan, Delaire, Spier, Guardian Peak. Better reds at Delaire. Jordan, Guardian Peak, etc. So exceptional value for sure but better quality elsewhere.

And if you have time, rent a bike and get out into the beautiful hills and valleys in this area and work for your meal -- you'll feel virtuous and healthy at the same time.
