“Is There Anyplace Better Than This?”

The Delaire Graff could vie for best lodge in the world. With an incredible property located in the vineyard and staff that far exceeds the number of guests, you certainly feel as if you are on your own private estate. There is a winery and fantastic artwork on the property courtesy of Lawrence Graff, the diamond retailer/owner, and two wonderful restaurants which are open to the public and provide a little life at night, while during the day the property is relatively quiet enabling guests to enjoy their overly spacious suites or the open areas in and around the lodge in total privacy. The only bother may be the staff who seem to know what you are doing at every moment in order to better be able to serve you We watched the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony in the private theater by ourselves, whereupon the nightly complimentary canapes and champagne, and dinner were served. The views of the surrounding vineyards are spectacular. If this isn't the best place in the world, I can't imagine what is.

Room Tip: Lodges # 9 and 10 are less expensive and, thus, do not have the view over the valley and vineyards a...

This review is for the spa only. We were not lucky enough to stay at the lodges but did have a spa day at Graff.

What can I say? The views are literally breathtaking. The lounge area is the most beautiful at any spa I've been to. Service was lovely. My husband and I both loved our treatments and our therapists. Luxurious but supremely relaxing.

The only complaint we really had was the locker/changing rooms. I really hate to complain b/c everything else was so great but it was so disappointing that it deserves mention. The women's room had a couple of used towels lying around, but my husband said the men's room was pretty filthy (and he's not one to notice or complain). Rather surprising for a spa/resort that prides itself on being first class.

The amenities were just ok. They did have hair dryer, lotions, soaps, etc.
The locker/changing rooms just didn't seem to match the excellence and luxury of the rest of the spa.

All in all, would we return? Absolutely! Perhaps it was an off day for the cleaning crew? The actual treatments and service made up for it x100!

We were guests from Germany and we spent 3 days in this fantastically located hotel. Unfortunately it was in spite of incipient spring and sunshine a little unusual fresh for the season. On the mountain tops was even a little snow. However, the hotel, the spectacular location and the service equipment let us spend a wonderful time here. Then there were the wineland and its attractions that you should definitely travel. We can only highly recommend this house and would like to go here again any time.

Room Tip: Deluxe Rooms is the best choice for a couplet

I had booked a manicure for my wedding in January a month in advance and requested a French manicure. As she polished with what was obviously thick and old polish which she kept having to remove and reapply, the manicurist advised they don't do many manicures and don't do many french manicures and admitted the polish was old and a new one hadn't been ordered in a long time. She did not apply a base coat to all nails and I had to ask for the top coat to be applied... this is unheard of!! especially at what is supposed to be a 5* establishment. I was charged over >R1000 for the worst manicure/ pedicure of my life. Honestly charging this much for this service and not having new bottles of polish is just ridiculous and unacceptable. Needless to say the next day at my wedding my polish was horrendous. If you are a bride please avoid this place. They may be good for other services such as massages, tan towel etc but NOT manicures/ pedicures...

Dear Madame

My sincerest apologies for your disappointing manicure and pedicure experience at the spa. The therapists comments have been seriously dealt with. The spa is a very popular destination for brides pre and post wedding and so we do in fact do French manicures and pedicures on a regular basis and therefore the product is replenished on a regular basis. The treatment was unfortunately compromised at your request to reduce a 2 hour treatment to 1 hour and this put the therapist under immense pressure to execute the full French paint procedure.

Kind regards,
Taffryn Kinsey

Hard to call this a hotel as it is so homely and welcoming. The Studio's are well equiped with great amenities and touches. Free laundry daily. Nespresso as many as you want. Evening canape's and bubbly. Two great restaurants to choose from. Your own infinity pool and deck. A great spa with sauna & steamroom. Very very friendly staff... Notice how they stand up from behind their front desk and greet you by name and ask how your day was...... Or to wish you a wonderful day. They take great intersest in their guests with real care. Breakfast can be sent to your room but the view is too good to. Miss so get up and sit outside in the restaurant.

Room Tip: The ones with a view onto Simonsberg are great, to the west you will have the sunsets and to the eas...

We srayed in September at this wonderful place for a view days only. The location is great to relax and enjoy the wonderful views and the excellent cuisine. The suites have everything you may want and the decor is beautiful. We had our own pool but unfortunately the weather did not allow a bath. The Spa offers good treatments only the Sauna could be a bit bigger and nicer. The Fitness is great with excellent machines. Breakfast on the sunny terrace was great with wonderful fruits and many other delights. The restaurant at the hotel was good but we liked much more the restaurant at the winyard. The reception offered solutions for every wishes, bicycles, restaurant recommendations and transfers to Stellenbosch, which is a lovely town with shops, restaurants and galleries. The staff is great, very friendly and professional. The rates are very high but we would love to get back soon.

Room Tip: All rooms are great

Firstly, I clearly want to state that this review is purely for the lodge and spa. I am a huge fan of the restaurant. We were not guests of the lodge as we went to the restaurant for lunch. I took my overseas guest to the lodge to show him the beautiful setting. We spoke to the two ladies at reception in order to find out room rates etc. He wanted to spend a night in stellenbosch/franschoek the following week. Yes, we were not guests at that moment, but that does not justify the very poor and rude service we experienced. Do they only reserve 5*quality service for their current guests? We were met with exceptionally rude and curt responses to all our questions. It is so sad that these two ladies changed our perception of this very beautiful lodge. We had just come from the Mandarin Oriental in Barcelona where we had checked in as non guests and were treated with 5* calibre service from the start. I wish South African establishments could learn from this and realize that they lost potential clients. This little encounter with the front-office clearly indicates that the service would be unauthentic and pretentious. I know the human element in any business is the hardest to control but it is also the element that can truly leave a bad aftertaste or truly impress a guest. We were left with a truly bitter aftertaste but it was soon clarified after out trip back to the delaire restaurant to sample some sublime wines. Delaire as an estate is hands down my favorite although the service in the lodge needs to be reevaluated.
