Delaire Graff Estate - Lodges and Spa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed September 4, 2013

My wife and I recently had the privilege of spending a night at the world class Delaire Graaf Estate, situated on the top of Helshoogte pass in Stellenbosch. From the location to the decor, from the interior design to the finest linen, from the front of house staff to those behind the scenes this offering is the best I've ever stayed in. A big thank you to everybody involved in our stay. We can't wait to be back!!

Graff estate, like its namesake, is perhaps the most beautiful setting imaginable. Enter via a collection of world class art, repair to your luxury lodge overlooking your private infinity pool, overlooking the vineyards, overlooking the mountains with an African sunset...spectacular.

Champagne and canapes await. Relax a bit then catch a movie in the private screening room. Proceed to a seven course paired tasting menu w/ perhaps a bottle of '08 Graff reserve cab.

While the wife does whatever it is they do at the Spa, you might walk the vineyards, garden, then a brisk workout in the gym. Did I mention the champagne and canapes? The amenities Mr. Graff offers are worth the price of a small hotel room in a major city. The spirit of generosity in the well stocked mini-bar, chips and snacks, another bottle of wine, laundry just should not be taken for granted. Simply spectacular.

We stayed at the Delaire Graff Estate in July 2013 for just one night.
We were greeted at the door, with a very warm welcome, and led into the extremely artistically done up lobby.
This resort dispenses with the usual formal checkins, and instead we were shown around the resort first and made to feel extremely welcome. The hot tub was extremely inviting though we did not use it due to the cold weather.
To our delight we had been upgraded to the Presidential suite, and stayed in possibly the best rooms we have ever had the chance to occupy. The Champagne in our rooms made us feel extra welcome.
Each suite is equipped with it's own kitchenette, which is well stocked with all kinds of snacks, and condiments. Each suite also has an entertainment system, though the movie theater is more inviting.

The food is also extremely inviting and we ate our hearts out.

The wineyard is extremely pleasant to stroll through, and a tour of the wine cellar is definitely recommended.
The Wine tasting session is also well done.

The only downside of this resort is the location, with nothing nearby to see and do. However, the many facilities in the resort more than make up for that.

Room Tip: We were upgraded to the Presidential Suite, which had their own hot tub.

Stayed for a week at Delaire with our 4 kids ages 11,8,5 and 2 and had a wonderful time- we were in a South Africa for a month-long family holiday and aside from the safari we did in the Kalahari, the kids said that Delaire was their favorite place. Very surprising as we booked it thinking that the kids would be bored stiff, but the moment we were shown to our lodge (we stayed in the Presidential, which was perfect!), you could tell that they made a huge effort for the children. There were board games, toys, bathrobes and slippers, snacks, art kits...easels with paints outside in the deck...the kids were thrilled! As it wasn't a busy time, the kids also had the private cinema to themselves every night (huge DVD selection) and the staff set it up with popcorn, and even dinner, so my husband and I were able to have wine tastings and quiet dinners at the restaurants (superb food!).

The service was impeccable (front dest staff were so friendly and organized with anything you wanted to do), lodge rooms extremely comfortable (my only negative would be the lighting in our lounge area in the evening was far too dark), food and wine excellent in the most beautiful setting. There is also lots to do around the area, so it was the perfect place to be in Stellenbosch.

I have travelled a bit and been to many strange and wonderful places. I can honestly say that the Delaire Graff is up there with the best of them. From the moment you are greeted and shown to a luxury lodge you feel that there is something special about the resort - there is! My wife and I travelled with two friends. Our Lodge had a living room, balcony with private pool and two huge bedrooms.
The service was impeccable, the restaurant wonderful as was the Spa. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, there really is no downside to this wonderful place. We will be back.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms

Stellenbosch is amazing place, but Delaire Graff Estate is the jewel of the Stellenbosch!

I live in Cape Town so I go to the Delaire often!
The grounds and view are simply stunning! The food is delicious! But the SPA is the best of all! Its is a perfect place to go with your girlfriends for the nice relaxing girls time! Start your day with marvelous rose facial or relaxing bath and massage! The girls working at the SPA are super nice and professional at what they do!
After the Spa its perfect to have lunch on the Terrace with the most spectacular views!
I recommend this place to all my friends and all of them had their expectation succeeded !

And I cant wait to go back there!

Our stay was simply amazing. We stayed at one of the deluxe suites with two rooms and a private heated pool. The design of the room allows to open the sliding doors completely to create an amazing indoor/outdoor experience. You can watch the sunset over the vineyard from your bed.

You enter the estate through a private winding road lined with trees and enveloped by the mountains ranges. At sunset, the viewe are out of thua world. At the spa pool, the sunset views are absolutely enchanting. You can have canopes and champagne while watching the sunset.

The service was impeccable with the staff genuinely caring for their guests. We cancelled our dinner reservation because we were too full from lunch and received from front desk asking if we are hungry and we want them to send snacks. You can also have full breakfast in your room, everything is complimentary including the mini bar, espressos. You are never left without water or snacks.

I highly recommend Delaire for everyone visiting South Africa. We have stayed at a number of Relais & Chateaux properties around the world and this one is certainly a highlight.

Cape Town wine country is an absolutely stunning place with the terrain and wineries to rival if not exceed the beauty of Tuscany or Napa Valley.
