“Exquisite design and service experience”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

We spent a very relaxing New year's week in this wonderful hotel. The location in the very center of Stellenbosch is perfect and the service provided by all of the staff was at the highest level we have experienced.
This is not a luxury hotel for those seeking big suites and all sorts of facilities that the international luxury hotels offer. But for us, that appreciate the small scale, the exquisite taste throughout the interior design, and beyond all, the really personal and warm hospitality, this was just great.

We stayed in room 7, which has a balcony overlooking the pool. The room is rather small, but the bed is big and extremely comfortable, the bathroom very nice with double sinks and the air conditioner is quiet.

The entire staff was always very helpful, but Ilzebet, the elegant and ever-present General Manager was a wonder of hospitality. She has 100% of that genuine but so rare service-mindedness that makes you feel so welcome and looked after. We asked for advice on how to hike up the Table Mountain and she took great effort in finding us the best of all mountain guides, Riann Vorter from www.hiketablemountain.co.za, he led us on a wonderful day on the Table Mountain.

Then we asked Ilzebet about how to get someone to drive us to some nice wineries and she promptly booked the best of all wine guides, John Grant from www.wineescape.co.za. He gave us a wonderful tour with lots of inspiration about South African premium wines and took us to the best wineries based on our personal taste, places that we never would have found ourselves. We were not surprised when we saw that both these guides are ranked #1 on TridAdvisor.

We felt totally pampered and will surely return this this little little gem!

The service at this hotel is fantastic. The rooms, although a little small, are really comfortable. I'm not quite sure if it warrants five stars, just because the bar and lounge are somewhat cramped. But the service, and lovely breakfast, more than make up for that. Would stay here again gladly.

Hotel is centrally located. They have a valet service to park your car as no long term stay on the street. Check in was swift, people friendly. We had room 17 which was up the stairs to the back. The bed was wonderful with great linen. The bathroom was big, but with a musty smell. Breakfast was disappointing after our recent stays at Kensington palace in Cape Town and Avondrood in Franschhoek. Not very delicate in comparison. There is a small pook and deck in the back.

We spent four nights here in December and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. We were in room 2 overlooking the street. Noise was not a problem at any time. As others have noted, the rooms are not large but perfectly acceptable for a short stay. Breakfasts were excellent with kitchen cooked to order choices. There is some outside seating in the small rear courtyard which also has a small swimming pool and a few sun loungers. We dined one evening at a lovely table on the front terrace. In addition to the delicious food prepared by Chef Nadia and her team, the service was impeccable. All the staff were extremely courteous and helpful and this made our stay all the more special. The building is charming and a little quirky so if you are looking for a large filing cabinet for people with an Olympic size pool this is not the place for you! As for us, we would return in a heartbeat and probably will.

This is a nice 5 star hotel in the very centre of Stellenbosch. Service is excellent (all very helpful and friendly people). Rooms are clean and luxurious. Breakfast is fresh and of excellent quality. To the down side: rooms are pretty small (as is the swimming pool). If you ask for tourist information, you are easily referred to the tourist information centre (a 500 meters walk away (I would expect the concierge in a 5 star hotel to be able to help guests himself)). Also booking a taxi seems not to be a standard question. Having had excellent experiences with South African guest houses, I might be tempted to use a B&B in Stellenbosch next time as well. Nevertheless, a very good hotel (at for South African standards quite high prices).

We stayed here recently as we were going to a Wedding in Stellenbosch. The Hotel & all the staff just go out of their way to make you feel so welcome. We had dinner one night and it was superb. We were travelling to the Wedding Venue & they went out of their way to get us there and back. We would recommend this Hotel without any reservations.

We stayed for 2 nights at Coopmanhuijs and it is really a fantastic hotel. Staff are o so nice and helpfull. Rooms are great (with balcony for the smokers) and the resaurant is also very good (try the stuffed quail). Check in & out went smoothly as they park and fetch your car to/from a private underground parking. Absolutely recommendable.
