“Superb!!!”
Reviewed September 4, 2011

I booked a "special deal" to stay at the Wild Mushroom Boutique Hotel in Stellenbosch for my partner and I, and can only say "Thank You" to the owners and staff for making our stay such a splendid one. On arrival, we were personally met by Wynand, the owner. The decor is fantastic, the rooms spacious, luxurious but not excessive. The set menu for both dinner and breakfast was prepared by Chef Heno, and was superb. The entire theme is around mushrooms, and we even had a short Mycology tour/less (I hope I got the terminolgy correct) wich was very informative, conducted by Dr Smit who really is truly passionate and knowledgeable.......what a novel concept they have...you must check this venue out. Stellenbosch is more than just wine - The Wild Mushroom was a superb experience and I personally recomend it as a unique base from which to explore Stellenbosch and its great beauty - or just to treat your partner to a stunning romantic weekend away!

Room Tip: ask for the Kalahri room - it has stunning views.

I stayed at The Wild Mushroom Hotel for two nights in May – a stay I will never forget. It is a lovely little hotel on a private property with only six rooms in total. I booked the “Psilocybe“ room for my friend and me and we loved the room as much as the entire place. Service has been overwhelmingly warm and friendly. We were the only guests when we arrived on Friday night and the manager – who is also the cook and the concierge and everything in between – made dinner just for the two of us! And we never had a filet of beef like that! The breakfast the next day was equally great, also served from the manager and two lovely ladies – I have never experienced so much attention for detail!
The owner of the place got us into the number one restaurant “Rust en vrede” for Saturday night, a wonderful experience, we were so lucky. We also did some wine tasting at Hidden Valley Wines and Delaire Graff, two awesome places! The weather was not good enough to use the outside space and pool, but still – everything is just lovely.
The Wild Mushroom Hotel is the most unique and best place I have ever stayed at, a place you can not compare to any other hotel since it is not just any hotel but an experience for itself and I hope I will be back one day. Thank you to the entire team!

A wonderful place to stay when you are doing the winelands. We were greeted by the owner, who took the time during our stay to find out what we wanted to do and to make recommendations about places to visit and/or eat.

The hotel is furnished to a very high standard - the interior designer had fabulous taste.

Our room was faultless, beautifully appointed, clean, comfortable, with a huge en suite bathroom. The service at the hotel was brilliant too. Nothing was too much trouble.

Don't miss the wild mushrooms for breakfast. Simply scrumptious!

The hotel is located in a safe and secure area with a short drive to Stellenbosch. The staff are friendly and attentive and make every effort to ensure a pleasant and trouble free stay. The suite had outstanding views and was spacious. Breakfast was truly outstanding and I rate it as one of the best I have ever experienced in a 5 star hotel. Lunch was provided for our guests and it was well received. It represents excellent value for money and we can highly recommend it.

This hotel has really great views and sitting chilling by the pool was perfect.
We had a great stay here, the food was outstanding. Everyone had a ball. Stellenbosch is a really nice town and there is lots to do. We spent a day on the De Zalze golf course.

A truly unique hotel experience. This is the worlds first mycotourism hotel. They cultivate mushrooms on site in the cellar and you can take a tour were you can learn about over 60 types of mushrooms. The hotel is stunning, real 5 star quality. The food is truly extraordinary.
