“Buffet Sunday lunch at Flavours at Devon Valley Hotel nothing special”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Decor and surroundings very good but the buffet lunch was dissapointing. No fish except for mussles which were tasteless. The starter beef was covered in mustard which was a pity. The oxtail and the lamb were superb though. Service was friendly and excellent.

Great food in elegant surroundings served by friendly attentive staff for not a lot of money. Ate here every night during our stay at Devon Valley Hotel and never thought of going anywhere else

“Forgettable”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

The restaurant really has the feel of a hotel dining room - brightly lit, lots of big groups, large 'starter buffet' in the middle of the room etc. The main menu sounds interesting but the food quality was not good - bland, over-cooked pasta (the salt cellar yielded only rice grains and no salt..), utterly tasteless soup. Admittedly the springbok was very tender but overpowered by its peppercorn sauce. Extensive separate dessert menu on a laminated plastic card (nice) with at least 12 choices (surely no need). We shared one which managed the feat of being either too sweet and completely devoid of flavour in each of its constituent parts (I forget what they were). Perhaps the chef had a bad day, or was off. The service was also remarkably off-hand. Surprisingly for a restaurant and hotel on the site of a vineyard there was no attempt to sell any of their own wines, or indeed discuss the wine list at all. Bizarre and altogether disappointing but at least the bill was reasonable. So many other great restaurants in the area that deserve a visit. Avoid this one.

“Nice place”
Reviewed February 10, 2012

This is a beautiful little restaurant outside of Stellenbosch. The ambience is beautiful and the front of house and service are friendly and impeccable.

I'm not going to lie, I've had better food before but its way above average and very tasty. My duck was a bit dry and my white chocolate mousse was unimpressive but I dont think this should detract from the restaurant. Alongside a phenomenal wine list, I would recommend this place as a nice place to spend time with friends and eat out.
