The children loved the waterfall and exploring in rocks and water. It's great for a family outing but also for groups wanting to exercise together. We've cycled here and it's not for the unfit or small children at all as it has many uphills and you end up being far away from where the car is parked. You need to stick it out to reach your destination. Great for older children unless you take a short route or are prepared to carry the little ones along treacherous mountain paths. Not ideal in rain or mist as you can easily lose your way.

Coming from Gauteng we enjoyed the accessibility and the many paths so much. Jonkershoek is in a pristine setting.

The specially made pathways are well maintained and we went back a second time.

it is also great for hiking and various distance routes are available.

Lastly, it only costs R25 to enter and offers great value for very little money. We will be back!

I very much liked the detailed description about Jonkershoek. We did the same hike in about half a day. But there's so much more to explore :). Thanks Marius!

an early start and a bottle of chilled water are recommended for your visit to this beautiful reserve as it's nestled in valleys and glens that run between steep-sided hills and so can get oppressively hot in the afternoons. plus some persistence, as it's not signposted from the main roads.
toilets and a good cafe are at the gate (R40 per person in a car, that's currently about £2.50 each and so a real bargain). then it's a 10 minute drive to parking for the 3km hike to the first waterfall (gently uphill with brilliant views at every turn) and its welcomingly cold rock pool, or a bit over twice that and a much steeper climb to the second fall. return to your car, take out your picnic and have it sitting on rocks, dipping your toes in the river under the bridge that connects the two parts of the parking area. those who've mountain-biked enthuse about the well laid out trails, the variety of challenge they offer and the scenery they pass. and for the real enthusiast, there's a 17km hiking trail - but beware, it's not circular so you'll need to plan ahead to get back to your transport.

The nature is so stunning and empowering that you need to just sit down and take in all the energies. When you do, you start to see all the small things around you like the snakes, caterpillars, flowers and all the beautiful life that makes up this magnificent place. I felt review when we left.
