We had dinner on a rainy evening. The reception and service was very good. The ambiance was excellent, especially the predrinks in the Sansibar. The food however were not great especially if you take into account the standars od restaurants in the vicinity for the same price range.

The carpaccio starter was dry and it appear as if the meat were cut well in advance. The lamb shank main was good and the Asara dessert selection was ok but nothing to remember.

There is a lot of other restauants I will visit before I return to Raphaels.

Had dinner two nights in a row as were staying in the hotel, which is fantastic. Breakfasts were brilliant, but dinners on both nights were disappointing. Sirloin steaks tonight were very poorly trimmed and tough. Not nice at all. Lamb shanks last night also tough. Prices are high so you expect much better. Will be eating elsewhere for the rest of our stay. Pity, as service and wine was exceptional.

Wonderful lunch. Had the Asara Beef Rossini which was one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in South Africa, and that's saying something. Attentive service and beautiful views. Worth the trip from Cape Town.

This was a great pick by the travel desk in our previous hotel on this trip (Victoria and Alfred Cape Town Waterfront - see separate review). We explained that a lot of fine dining places had a no children under 12 policy and so were a bit stuck for a place to celebrate with a nice meal.
Rachael's ticked the box. A beautifully appointed restaurant, intimate lighting and non intrusive service.
They wished us a happy anniversary as soon as we arrived and as we were there early, they accommodated our request to change our table without any quibble. They gave us a baby friendly table and brought out a baby chair without us having to ask.
The food was great, although pretty big portions. The starters were good, the meat cooked to perfection, but the desserts sublime! Get the chefs selection of mini desserts. We were even to a surprise, second dessert to celebrate our anniversary.

We were so disappointed by this restaurant. I admit that we had been spoilt by the general phenomenal standard of food we had SA, but this was by far the worst meal of our entire trip.

We both had steak, which was quite tough and very fatty. I stuck to a plain pudding (mango sorbet) as a safe bet, but even this was sub par - just overly sweet and artificial tasting.

The view was nice enough (man-made lake with mountains in the background) but very underwhelming compared to pretty much every other restaurant/winery we'd been to in Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
