Planned to stay here for 2 nights as a base for exploring Stellenbosch but left after one. Had a room at the front of the hotel above the coffee shop. Traffic went through the crossroads outside constantly through the night, and the coffee shop below began their work up at 6 in th emorning. To top it all, we found a cockroach in the bathroom - not unusual for a city hotel, but the apology and lack of discount offerred the next morning did not impress. Lovely in-house staff and great breakfast in the coffee shop, but can't recommend this place as good value for money. If you do stay, request a room at the back.

We stayed here for 5 nights, as our base Capetown World cup matches, as well as visits to wineries. Arno, the owner, was very helpful with all our many queries and the breakfasts in the danish bakery below were delicious. The rooms were spotless, if not modern, with all the facilities we needed. Having read a review by a someone who claims they had stuff stolen, I have to say that we did not bother to use the safe and did leave MP3 players, cameras, etc. out in the room quite happily and did not feel there were any security issues here that you might feel in other guesthouses. The free parking just down the road was a bonus.

This is a lovely B&B situated in the centre of Stellenbosch. A great location for exploring this beautiful town and the surrounding winelands. The rooms are basic but very comfortable and are kept immaculately clean. For breakfast you go downstairs to the coffee shop which is situated underneath the guesthouse. Here you can choose from cakes and muffins of even a full cooked breakfast or omelette. Whatever you decide on it will be delicious! Arno who runs the guesthouse and the coffee shop is a great host and very helpful. Overall a great B&B in the perfect location!

The 4 room B&B is in the centre of town, a double edged sword. Central, able to walk around to shops and restaurants, noisy during the late evening and early morning, The bedrooms and facilities are in keeping with the age of the building, while some of the appliances (notably a bedside lamp which repeatedly fell over) and a tiny TV both have seen better days 20 years ago. Use of the Internet PC in the shared landing area is useful.

The safe in the room doesn't seem to work - with a key which doesn't match and no code provided. I'd strongly advise you to not leave anything of value in your room, as my music player did get stolen from our locked room while we were out. The owner mentioned 2 people have access to the room - the cleaner and receptionist, but seemed loathe to chase the issue any further then that.

Breakfast is in the cafe situated underneath the B&B, with a cafe style menu which limited options (I.E. Cereal or cooked breakfast, rather then cereal and cooked breakfast).

As owner I would like to state that we deeply regret this incident. I was on duty that morning and dealt directly with the guests in question who the lost their Mp3 palyer. I feel I dealt with the issue thouroughly.

The safe in question was faulty at the time. It was explained to the guests that the the safe- keys were mistakedly taken by the previuos nights guests. The apology was accepted by the guests.

The cleaning lady on duty was Cornelia and has been in employment with us for over 10 years.
Cornelia is extremely trustworthy. Ditto for Florence our weekend receptionist.

Our guest house prides itself on security and guests have absolutely nothing to worry about.
This was an isolated incident.

As for the breakfast: I served and cooked the breakfast for these guests. They had a FULL MENU to choose from. They seemed satisfied after eating and no complaints were received.

I stayed in the Oude Meule in May. It has a fantastic location in the town centre just off the Main Street. My bedroom was spacious with starched white bed linen, an ensuite bedroom and a great view of the street. There’s a small central reception for meeting other guests. The big bonus was the free traditional South African breakfast in the adjoining café which is run by Arno the owner of the Oude Meule. There was free parking next door. All in all it was superb value and a real pleasure to visit. I will certainly return.

We stayed at de Oude Meul for three nights in late March, during a couple of months we spent traveling through South Africa. Free internet - that actually worked, was a real surprise. The "TripAdvisor" site has a review that was submitted in February that makes some relatively negative comments. We were lucky enough to actually stay in the room mentioned that had the "sagging" balcony. We loved the room. Two flower boxes were located on the balcony, which made an extremely charming area. I'll leave comments on balcony safety to Stellenbosch's building inspectors - it appeared competently constructed and maintained. To us, the balcony was simply a nice area to have available. The owner also owns the coffee shop downstairs - which means you will find the breakfast more comparable to Cape Town than most of South Africa. We walked around the area extensively - the town is also highly recommended.

Stellenbosch and surrounds is a wine lovers' paradise. This guest house is situated in the heart of town directly above Arno's coffee shop where guests breakfast. This accommodation proved to be a great choice. It is safe to wonder around the streets of Stellenbosch at night and sample the many restaurants. There is secure parking. The only downside is the stairs that one has to climb with luggage. There is free internet access also. This is a great budget choice in an area where budget accommodation is difficult to find.
Our room overlooked the street and was a little noisy but we felt this was a small proce to pay for the location. There is a small fridge and sink that can be shared by guests.
