“Brilliant service, excellent rooms- wonderful people”
Reviewed August 24, 2010

We stayed at Aan Dorpstraat for two nights at the end of our road trip holiday around South Africa and were amazed by the 5* attentive and welcoming service received from Gwen and Johann. They did everything to make our stay comfortable, nothing was too much to ask and it honestly felt like staying with old friends! Our room was obviously recently decorated and beautifully clean, cosy and well appointed. Particularly like the 'slipper' free-standing bath, although never got chance to use it with all the wine tasting! We also given a delicious breakfast cooked personally for us. The road was a little noisy in the mornings, but only if you have a long lie- in like us! For the standard of service, security, and rooms this is an absolute bargain in price - should be 5*!

Great welcome from Gwen and Johann who did all they could to make our visit to Stellenbosch enjoyable. Extremely comfortable room with all mod cons. Delicious breakfast in delightful atmosphere created by the hosts as they cook and serve breakfast personally. Small pool in lovely surroundings.

We have been searching Stellenbosch for years for the perfect guest house. Now we've found it.

We spent 11 nights here over Christmas & New Year (at the same time as Otto 11!. We made our reservation a year ago & during the intervening period have received an enormous amount of help from Gwen in arranging restaurants, transport etc. At the last moment we decided to arrive 3 days early & require a taxi from CPT. No problem, all was arranged without fuss.

We stayed in Room 7 which has a seemingly private balcony area overlooking the pool. Great room in a perfect location. The furnishings & amenities are of a very high quality. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The bathroom, complete with a separate shower which will accommodate a family of 4, was huge. The rooms are serviced daily to a very high standard by Gwen's army of ladies.

Gwen & Johan are the perfect hosts, providing friendly advice & informative chat, often over a cold beer or glass of wine! Nothing is too much trouble, from giving advice on restaurants, wineries, day trips etc & then willingly making or changing reservations.

Breakfast is a revelation. Everything seems to be on the menu but there are 2 highlights. Johan bakes fresh rolls & individual loaves daily, The smell as you enter the dining room is stupendous. Johan has also perfected the art of poaching eggs, wrapped in cling film like little parcels. Try them, you won't be disappointed.

Aan Dorpstraat is situated in a quiet side street, only 5 minutes stroll from the town centre. Therefore there is no need to drive when eating out in the evening in one of the many fine restaurants.

We cannot fault Aan Dorpstraat. Try it, you won't be disappointed

We have stayed in many B&B's before. This surely rates as a highlight because of the modern and practical layout of the rooms and house. This is complemented by the personal touch from Johan and Gwen with respect to the food, the service and hospitality.

We were very fortunate to end our 3 and half week tour of SA including many top luxury hotels with a stay at Johan and Gwen`s newly established Guest House. What a treat it was!! Such a very warm welcome even though we were hours too early for check in, a very well appointed and well equiped en-suite room with secure parking enhanced with a marvellous home cooked breakfast including home made bread and a huge array of fruits, cereals, meats and jams etc. We were given helpful advice and vouchers for wine tasting etc- nothing was too much trouble. All within very close walking distance to the town. We were thoroughly spoilt!!
