“Nearly the best food experience ever”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

After dinning at this number 1 ranked restaurant you understand why.
After a long ride through the different vineyards you discover a restaured old farm looking restaurant.
Once you've passed the tasting room (where all the sizes of wine bottles are exposed), you've been drinking a glass of sparkling wine at the terrace viewing the sunset the real food experience starts.
All courses were like real pictures, without exception.
They even cover your glass os sparkling water so yo don't get the bubbles on you or your dish!
Very best experience in Somerset-West !!!

“Very nice small winery”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

Not that commercial winery, nice for a change. The wines are one of the best. Hard to get the good ones, but if you have the change, get your wallet!

“Top notch!”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Go here if you are looking for a truly special experience. The setting is supremely romantic and like something out of a movie. Everything was thought of - right down to the finest detail, making it absolutely spot on. This is 5 star at its best, but not is a snooty way - you felt so relaxed and it all seemed effortless. Food was great, wine was totally stunning, service was superb and the setting was magnificent. This is one for the bucket list - not to be missed!

“John just gets better & better!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Back again for our annual visit to our favourite restaurant in SA, if not the whole world. As we had booked 6 months ago Andrea had kindly allocated us our favourite table (no, I'm not saying which.)

On a beautiful summer's evening we enjoyed pre dinner drinks outside as we relaxed enjoying the view over the vines & surrounding mountains gradually turning red as the sun set. Delicious snacks accompanied our glasses of wine.

We chose different dishes for each of the 4 courses so enjoyed a 12 course meal. (There are also a couple of surprises injected into the meal). As ever, the food was expertly prepared & served with lots of little extras on the plate. John seems to have added some subtle Asian touches to several dishes.

We didn't bother to look at the vast wine list, we trusted Joakim, the sommelier, implicitly. We weren't disappointed & enjoyed a total of 10 different wines, finishing as ever with the amazing Vin de Constance.

Thank you all yet again for such a memorable evening. Hope Forest make it John.

“Pure Class !!”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

I think most of what can be said about Rust En Vrede has been said. For our part it is one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. The food, service, wine and location were all of the highest order and we will most certainly revisit this restaurant when back in Stellenbosch.
