Description: Our restaurant, Harvest at Laborie, is the canvas upon which internationally acclaimed chef Matthew Gordon renders his culinary art. The menu is contemporary South African with ingredients sourced locally. Free range and organic Karoo lamb, beef and fresh line fish are regular features on the menu, while herbs and vegetables are harvested from the restaurant's own garden. All of these components are cleverly combined to deliver a supreme dining experience hallmarked by depth of flavour and superb presentation. The restaurant has amassed a loyal following and is a #KLINK award-winner, having been singled out from the Cape's plethora of wine tourism destinations by popular vote..

If you want a typical good winelands lunch for a family gathering, Laborie would be a good choice. But beware. It is deservedly very popular and over weekends the service can be a bit patchy at times. Be sure to remember who your waiter and what he looks like if you sit outside.

The food is of very good quality, and they do special dished that appeal to children. Talking about that, sitting outside is ideal for the kids to go and explore the wide-ranging garden, yet remain within easy earshot when the meal is served. Result: children happy and not obtrusive in the conversation of the adults. That is always a plus point that many restaurants miss.

Overall, a good experience and with a bit more attention and training, service could improve to earn the extra star.

We were a table of 6 for Sunday lunch. The lamb burger was dry and the desserts (panacotta and creme brulee)not good.I must admit the salmon fish cakes were really tasty but the service was lack luster (except for the wine waiter, who was very friendly)

Dear Sue,
Thank you for taking time to send us this review. We really appreciate any feedback that we receive from our guests in order to make the Harvest experience better.

With regards to your review, we as a Harvest family had lost one of our prized staff members and had attended her funeral the day before. Moral was low with all the staff, however this still remains a point on which we need to concentrate and I will personally ensure that all staff are put through a coaching session again to ensure that the service levels are of the highest standards. I also hope in my reply that you would consider joining us again for lunch or supper, to show you that this was not our norm, but rather, a moment in time when we as a family were dealing with a loss beyond measure.

Kind regards,
Zelda Oelofse-Cornthwaite
General Manager

We had an Easter lunch at Laborie and it was perfect. The starter was calamari salad, main kingklip fish and dessert was creme brule...all in harmony with paring wine from laborie itself...one should try the rose sparkling or blanc the blanc as they are great.
Of course the service is also pleasant and personal as we like it.

When-ever we go to one of the great restaurants of Paarl, Harvest at Laborie is definitively in our top 3 for lunch.

We were disappointed by the shabby state of a once grand room. Whilst the menu was diverse and the wine list, too, if a little expensive, the food did not live up to expectations.
The best taste of our lunch was the bread which was fresh, warm and aromatic, but the meal was bland and boring.

Very close to Alba House guest house, in fact it is only 8 minutes walk, which we have enjoyed gratly glimpsing views of the Paarl Rock on the way. Most beautiful farm homestead with great outdoor seating with beautiful views of the mountains. Very friendly staff, delicious food, wines from own production at Laborie. Fantastic place for lunch and dinner.
