“Interesting place”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

We stayed here in January this year. We were booked in to a luxury room so we were a bit dismayed to find ourselves in a room with little space around he bed and a balcony blocked in on booth sides with corrugated metal giving a sort of tunnel effect. My dismay was met with a distinct take it or leave it approach and I was firmly told that all rooms were the same size. However the restaurant was excellent (dinner & breakfast) and there were lots of birds to be seen. We decided to swim in the salt water pool but as it was thick with green algae and you could see neither the bottom nor the sides clearly it was not a very pleasant experience and we decided not to repeat it. Such a shame because the grounds are really interesting. By morning I'd had enough of the dark, cramped space and complained again, this time we were moved into a lovely room which was so much nicer. As all over Africa, most of the staff are so helpful.
However the absolute high point was the Meerkat Tour, it was an unbelievable experience to arrive in a field before dawn and to sit and wait for these wonderful animals to appear. So long as you only speak quietly and don't move suddenly, they completely ignore the presence of humans. The trip is run by Devey Glinister and is absolutely magical.

Room Tip: I think corner rooms are best as they have a view from the balcony and are lighter, it's the mid...

I remember your visit at De Zeekoe end of January. You were booked into one of our lovely luxury rooms, with a great view of our farm and mountains. This is the first complained we ever had that the view/ space was to small and dark on the veranda.

Our rooms are graded every year by SA tourism and are 100% up to standard. I'm sure our luxury rooms would have been downgraded by now if the space and view was not 4 star level. Our luxury rooms don't have outside showers like the superior rooms, also a reason why you wanted to move.
Luckily we had a superior room open to upgrade you free of charge....after you insisted.

With regards to the pool : We use our own fountain water, and as mentioned on the BIG sign next to the pool, it's not algae, it's the natural calx content in the water.

Only stayed here 1 night but could have done with another to enjoy the facilities and chill out.The luxury room we had gave a beautiful view from the balcony over the savana and further afield to the mountains. But no water/lake/pond in front as we were expecting from our holiday company photo, and I expect it rarely comes up to the photo spec.Fantastic food in the restaurant so don't bother going elsewhere, but last sitting is 7.30!Meerekat morning is well worth the early start.
4 out of 10 for valuables security. Our small room safe had only been glued(not screwed) to the back of a flimsy wall unit and had come unstuck so could simply be carried away.Staff were not sympathetic when we complained, and when the safe could not be opened on our departure we were told this often happens.
But don't let this put you off,a great place to take a time out.

Room Tip: Luxury rooms have the view.

Stayed here for one night and wish we could have stayed for longer. The lodges are very well equipped with large double bed, lovely free standing bath with seperate shower, fridge and seating area outside with small table and chairs. Would recommend the resturant as the food and service were outstanding. We both had the Ostrich steak which was cooked to perfection and was reasonably priced. Over view of the local area was given on arrival which was great. It is outside of Outschoorn village but very close to the Ostrich 'Safari' which is well worth a visit for a few hours. The hotel is also in a good location to visit the Cango Caves. The breakfast was cooked to order and agian to a very high standard with great service. Overall - The service was very friendly, food was very good and the rooms had lots of character. Would recommend this hotel.

I'm not sure how to rate this guest house highly enough! We stayed for 3 nights and really didn't want to leave!

The accommodation, location, views, food and service are all excellent but the real highlight is how friendly and welcoming the staff are! Nothing is too much trouble and everybody is always smiling and happy to see you.

A real gem, stay at De Zeekow, you won't regret it!!

Room Tip: The Cabins are separate from the main guest house but if you want to sit on the deck with your morni...

We stayed one night as part of our drive along the Garden Route from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town. The accommodation is beautiful with real attention to detail and lovely views. We enjoyed the meals in the restaurant and prices were very reasonable. Whilst at De Zeekoe we visited the nearby 'Safari' ostrich farm which was a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. We also got up early to meet Devey for the unique meerkat experience which was just amazing. It was such a privilege to witness the meerkats emerging from their burrows and Devey's knowledge was excellent. All in all well worth a visit!

We stayed here for 3 days over Christmas, myself, my husband and our 3 children. This place is fantastic and is just outside the main town so has a real outback feel to it. The rooms are clean and spacious with lovely views out over the mountains. The pool area and gardens are perfect for relaxing in. We also did the merecat tour whilst we were here which was well worth getting up at 4 in the morning for. The place felt very safe and the staff pleasant and helpful. The only disappointing part was that we were under the impression that the farm was an ostrich farm and the children were exciting about this, but when we asked about the farm tour we were told they no longer had any ostriches. They did have lots of lovely brown cows though that sung to us early every morning. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return one day.
