“Stunning location”

We stayed here for two nights in this 5* colonial house. The owners Helen and Heinz were perfect hosts and all the staff were both friendly and helpful. The food and wine list were superb and the house martins kept the guests amused during the dinner period. The bedrooms were large and well appointed with excellent quality toiletries. The swimming pool was solar heated to 27 degrees and located in a peaceful spot within the well manicured grounds.A gem of a hotel in this wonderful part of South Africa. When staying do negotiate the Swartberg pass-the view from the top is stupendous.

Room Tip: All rooms are well appointed so there would be little difference wherever you were allocated.

Altes Landhaus is everything a 5 star hotel should be. Excellent rooms, a wonderful setting, unfailingly helpful staff, excellent food, fantastic value for money. We cannot praise it highly enough - we just wish we had stayed there longer!

Spent two nights at this country hotel and really enjoyed our stay. Heinz and Helen are great hosts and the rest of the staff most welcoming and friendly. Lovely setting in gardens with a nice pool. Huge rooms with all mod cons. Great meals but only one menu so if staaying more than a couple of noghts could get boring, also not easy to eat out as location is relatively remote.

We only stayed here for one night and were sorry that we could not stay longer. The hotel is stunning and our room was very romantic with 4 poster bed and jacuzzi in the bathroom. Helen is a charming host and made us feel very welcome. We enjoyed a lovely dinner under the stars listening to all the different bird and animal noises and in the morning we were able to relax by the lovely warm pool after we had checked out.

We only stayed one night on our trip and regretted that we were not able to stay longer. It is an oasis. Helen made us so welcome, the food and service were excellent as was the accomodation. Even a heated saltwater swimming pool. Heated? Yes and welcome when you have baked in the African sun for a while!! no nasty shocks when immersing. Helen's husband who often introduces himself as "the gardener" keeps the grounds immaculate and it is full of birds and quirky features. When leaving the main road by the church do not be put off by what seems a backroad, it is short and leads to paradise. One thing. The honesty bar does not bring people together in the evenings, most electing to go to their rooms after dinner.
The ostrich farm just down the road is a good visit.
I managed to leave a shirt at the pool and Helen followed us up with a call at our next hotel and offered to post it on to Joburg where we were to arrive later in the holiday. Lovely people.

This was the second visit and can't recommend it highly enough, the setting is perfect and the staff extremely welcoming. The owner makes it her business to welcome each and every guest and make them feel special. The well prepared, home cooked food offers local specialties such as kudu and ostrich for the adventurous amongst you and tried and tested chicken pie for those not so. A must visit for a taste of the "real" Africa.

We stayed here for one night this week on Monday night October 15 and wow was this place special. From the minute we met the lady that runs it and owns it with her husband we fell in love with the place. The service by Albert and the team is perfect. We had dinner there and met some really nice people from England and Ireland. The dinner was great tasting and special with the atmosphere even when Zinzi the dog showed up for some attention. Actually the other dog was there but we forgot its name. I add the dogs because they we polite, clean and added to the feeling of being home. Overall a great place and was the cleanest place we have ever stayed in the world. A must place to stop at if your dong a self drive through this wonderful country.
