Lovely rooms opening onto large pretty garden, lots of flowers of shady trees. Comfortable beds, good bathroom. Very nice pool. Breakfast was excellent served in very pleasant room open onto garden. Could walk to restaurants, felt safe and not far. Private car park and had our car washed each day.

This is a deservedly popular stopover at the end of a Garden Route tour. It was recommened by our Capetown based guide who has been booking all his guests into this place for a decade and who always looks forward to this stop.

We arrived at the end of the day after a visit to Cango Caves which was very crowded and not our cup of tea and the Cango Wildlife Ranch across the road for the Lodge which is a must. You can cuddle cubs and big cats and even get in a cage next to a crocodile which was a thrilling experience for me and my pre teen nephew and niece. (You have to be above 12 to make the dive and they supply masks, towels and even swim wear if you need it and have clean changing rooms, hot showers and hairdryers when you get out.)

Sadly, this meant we had little time to enjoy the wonderful gardens and the pool. Note there is no shower around the pool and folks who had just gone jogging would jump right in which was a bit off putting. There are older rooms set around the pool and a newer wing behind them with deluxe rooms with a bathtub which are slightly bigger. They also have some family rooms with two bunk beds and guides´ rooms. All rooms and bathrooms are large and you still have privacy from other guests because of the wide open layout.

We were a party of 6 adults, two children and a baby in four rooms. Service at reception was super friendly. WIFI was free and reasonably fast. Rooms have a minibar in them. They don´t serve meals other than breakfast which is an outstanding buffet. You do have to make a point of flagging down a waitress for tea or coffee or eggs when it gets busy. There are several nice restaurants a short walk from the lodge or you can order pizza or pastas and eat on your garden terrace overlooking the pool which the kids in our party really enjoyed.

The lodge is quiet and upmarket. I wish we had had one more night here to chill and enjoy the lodge and garden. Highly recommended.

We were only here for one night, and don't have a lot to write, but thought this was a respectable place to stay if you are coming to Oudtshoorn.

On the positive side:
* the overall complex felt secure when we arrived and check-in was nice and quick.
* the bathroom was quite nice, with two sinks, a spa and a separate toilet - it was almost as big as the bedroom!
* the superior double room we were in opened out onto a nice garden
* It is located on the main road out of town towards the Swartberg Pass, Cango Caves, Wildlife Ranch and major ostrich farm.

On the negative side,
* It is not quite as "in the centre of town" as it appears on the website map - while it is on the main road, you probably need to drive to get right into town
* the bedroom is tiled, as is the bathroom – so you sort of feel as though the bedroom is an extension of the bathroom!
* while the overall complex felt secure, the room strangely didn't feel so secure. Nothing happened to us, but the glass sliding door that was the only entrance to the room left the room feeling very open and vulnerable.
* the bedroom felt a bit sparse - not much thought had been put into the decor

Breakfast the next morning was OK, though we didn't have a hot breakfast so can't comment directly on that.

The internet w-ifi worked in the greater reception area but not so well in our room.

Hlangana Lodge was an OK place to stay but not our favourite place on the trip. If you can find someplace better go for it, but it won't ruin your life to stay here.

Booked the hotel the evening before we arrived and expected very little. Turned out to be a lovely surprise of a place within walking distance from all the quaint and upmarket restaurants and shops in Oudtshoorn.

Gorgeous gardens and very welcoming pool. Quiet and comfortable with huge showers and double basins. Linens and decor in the rooms a bit tired and it has more of a "hotel" feel than a lodge, but the overall experience was great and the rates good.

Left too early in the morning to enjoy breakfast, so not able to comment, but the proximity to restaurants and pub in the area is a definite win.

we turned up slightly late on our first night and there were no problems checking in with the helpful staff. room was large and well air conditioned! next day we enjoyed the surrounding area, golf course (watch out for the ants!), cango caves and the nice pool with recliners. we found our car had be washed during the night both nights so we were very pleased about this too. the breakfasts were good, but they did run out of bacon on the second morning.
overall agood tidy hotel well worth a stay in if you pass through.

The hotel looked great on arrival and the pool and gardens were very well kept with a nice seating area outside the room. Unfortunately, the dated decor was a disappointment, and the very poor breakfast was also a let down. All in all, whilst it might represent fair value for money for the price, our one night passing through was enough. They did however wash our car which was a nice touch.

Another one night stay on the Kuoni 'Best of Africa' Tour. What a delightful hotel. We had a superior room with a patio area overlooking the garden. The room was large and airy with a huge bathroom - double basins, large shower, large bathtub and a separate loo. The bed was very comfortable.

There was no restaurant in the hotel but we had been recommended to try Jemima's a ten minute walk down the road. It was a good choice. We had an excellent meal and the service was exceptional even though they were busy. I tried the Karoo lamb - delicious, a very distinctive flavour.

The buffet breakfast was good but the service was slightly chaotic and due to communication difficulties we nearly didn't get our cooked breakfast.

We had such a pleasant stay at this hotel that we all felt that we would have liked to stay for another night or two.
