“Rainy days”
Reviewed April 23, 2014 via mobile

We visited the museum on a very wet day in Oudshoorn and were pleasantly surprised. Bigger than it looks from the outside. The displays are informative and the collections valuable and authentic.

Some interesting history on the ostrich farming as well as the town in its heyday.

Perhaps not the most child friendly as some of the displays are within easy reach of little hands but it's worth the effort. Paid 45 Rands entrance for family of 2 adults and 2 kids.

“Bad timing”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

Our experience is purely based on this one day, which was bad timinig. They were preparing for the Karoo Arts Festival and some rooms were going to be used for this, thus were several rooms stripped of their exhibitions and completely bare. For us this resulted in a poor experience, but we did get free entrance. It is actually a nice museum, which shows a lot of interesting artefacts and topics of the towns history and even has the synagogue inside its walls, which is stunning to visit. Better luck next time.

“Very good museum”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

I don't usually visit museums but this one was special. All the items on display were so interesting and well set out. We also walked to the Le Roux House but sadly didn't see inside as it closed it's doors just as we arrived.:(

“Great museum”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

It tells it all. from the start off the ostridge and all it's historie. We took this second change to visit the museum and the federpalace. It is a shame that there is not enough money to keep everything in good condition

“Great old style Museum”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

Well worth a visit if only just to give you an insight into "old" Oudtshoorn. All sorts of interesting stuff and the old sandstone building is beautiful as well.
