“Storybook of Little Karoo History”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

The layout of the museum was quite interesting as it's set out in a way that replicates the past. There are so many aspects of this small town that many people are not aware of that I found so fascinating! Many people might not bee keen to visit a museum, but it has a Jewish synagogue, a replica of Standard Bank, old carriages, an old apothecary and much, much more! For any travelers in the Karoo district, you should definitely soak up some small-town South African history by visiting this modest, beautiful museum.

“So much to see”
Reviewed January 9, 2014 via mobile

Wow what a surprise ! There is so much to see in this museum , the displays are outstanding , there is a exact replica of the Jewish Synagog inside from Lithuania which is truly beautiful, there are displays of various things from clothing to cars etc.... You need about 3 hours to truly go through the museum , very interesting and entrance is cheap

“Brilliant museum, not boring like others”
Reviewed January 4, 2014 via mobile

This museum is set out so well, it really keeps you intrigued and not bored to death like other museums. The old Standard Bank inside looks like something straight out of a cowboy movie, was awesome. The synagogue was beautiful and the story behind it even better. The museum really holds the history of Oudtshoorn from inspirational community stories to fully laid out rooms.

“a surprisingly interesting place”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

This looks like a dated and outdated venue and in some ways it is. But its very odd mix of exhibits and venue gives it an unexpected charm and I would recommend it.

“Parts under development...”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

We visited the CP Nel Museum on the last day of our holiday in Oudtshoorn in October 2013.
There are 2 of us that are quite into the academia area and quite enjoyed what was available to us. The reception was friendly and we were permitted free entry due to the reconstruction. We could see why they were revamping the place and a little patience would be needed from other people. Otherwise, it really was pleasant, not the best, but a good visit nonetheless for that educaitonal background on Oudtshoorn and very interesting.
