Owner description: Though damaged through shortsighted tourism schemes in the 1960s, these caves are still worth a visit for their eerie dark tunnels and stunning limestone formations.

Despite the ill-informed reports, the caves are a spectacular presentation of the cavernous and claustrophobic limestone.
Discovered in the late 18th century they have been explored and developed with excellent lighting and informative guides.
There are no longer concerts but our lady sang the SA national anthem beautifully to demonstrate the acoustics. Fascinating to see the formations dating back 1 million years.
There is a choice of two routes - the easier has many steps - the harder for the contortionist adventurer. Great value at R110 pp with explanatory film theatre.
Call ahead to book tour in high season.

The Cango Caves are awe inspiring. There are two tours, Conventional one where you explore, standing up, four of the massive rooms, but also the Adventure Tour that is much longer involving crawling, dirt and claustrophoby. Oh wait, that is me. The tour lasts for about one hour, the Adventure Tour I'm not sure. There is a curio shop, a restaurant nd, of course, the scenery is gorgeous. Wait to you hear about the lady that got stuck in the Chimney section causing several Adventure Tour hikers to be stranded for 11 hours.

Even after so many years, this is still one of my highlights in South Africa, so much history in the caves and area. My family enjoyed it as well

Great - worth a visit.
It's quite warn down there, so don't wear too much heavy clothing.

If you're staying in Oudtshoorn, stop at Buffelsdrift game lodge for lunch on the way back - it's lovely.
