Enjoyed seeing the ostrichs up close and personal, particulary enjoyed hearing the history, seeing the museum and the still occupied homestead was very beautiful.

“Great stop along the Garden Route”
Reviewed March 6, 2011

We stayed two nights here and found Paula to have a wonderful philosophy on life and felt her love of the people and the land. Be sure and book the room facing the river and get the wonderful private outdoor shower. The meerkat tour is definately worth getting up EARLY for. After a visit with Paula, she helped us do a cultural tour with a local family (Ma Bettie and husband). They took us on a private guided tour and we learned so much. All our meals were at the farm, and all is fresh, local, beautifully presented. Yes, the farm is a few km from the town but this is REAL South Africa, not a tourist trap. We live in New Mexico, USA and hope to return someday.

“Meerkats Meerkats”
Reviewed February 25, 2010

A trip to Oudtshoorn wouldn't be complete without spending a couple of hours watching the sun rise over the desert and observing the meerkats that live on this vast farm. You can make arrangements at the guest farm for an early morning guided tour. You meet the guide at an intersection and follow him to the site. When the sun gets warm, the 'meerkats emerge and soak up the heat. Energized, they begin their day of digging and foraging. This is a totally pristine experience in the spectacular setting of the Klein Karoo, as you follow these interesting and adorable animals along, keeping your distance so not to disturb them. This is an adventure for the discerning nature lover. Do not expect a Disney production.

The farm also offers 1 1/2 hour tractor rides on the property. Not the pure experience of the Meerkats but nevertheless a very interesting exposure to the world of large scale farming in the Karoo. While not billed as an ostrich experience, we learned more about these animals here than during a proper ostrich farm tour. Very interesting insight into the economic and social issues facing SA today.
