“Hospitable hosts”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

Zoe and Huw are delightful, very hospitable hosts who make their guests feel truly welcome. The room we stayed in was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Breakfast was really tasty and well cooked, and Zoe and Huw worked hard to see all our needs were met.
There are lots of things to do in Oudtshoorn but, as we only had one night there, we chose to drive the Swartberg Pass. This is not for inexperienced drivers or the faint hearted but we were assured by Zoe and Huw it was possible in our fairly standard hire car. The drive up a single track, dirt road from the Kanga Caves towards Prince Albert is amazing with wonderful scenery. However, the road up and down the other side is steep, unmade, rocky and there are few passing places, so it must be tackled with great care. I think Zoe and Huw were relieved to see us return!

Really lovely guest house owned by the friendly and helpful Zoe and Huw. Great location, within walking distance to restaurants. Fab pool, air con, off street parking, wifi, fantastic breakfast.
Will be back for sure.

We stayed at 88 BVR as part of a drive inland from the coast and we really wished we had been staying for more than just the one night. The modern room and shower had everything we needed. It was quiet and comfortable with plenty of safe off street parking. Breakfast was brilliant and far more choice than we could cope with. It is great value for money but the real jewel of this guest house is Zoe and Hew. It was like staying with a couple of old friends. Their recommendations for somewhere to eat were excellent. Lunch at Buffelsdrift Lodge with the views over the waterhole and an evening meal at Jemima’s next door was just what we needed. Chatting to them after an evening at Jemina’s over a cold beer was excellent – until we realised that they hadn’t eaten themselves! This is the place that will be first on our itinerary when we come back to South Africa. You will know when you have arrived at 88BVR because it is probably the only guest house with the Welsh dragon flag fluttering outside! Many thanks Zoe & Hew – you were brilliant.

A lot of the Guest Houses/B&Bs experience is based on the interaction with the owners, like any small business. We only had the pleasure of staying one night at 88, but Huw and Zoe made us feel so welcome.
The rooms at 88 are clean, modern and have everything that you need. The pool was lovely for cooling off in after a hot day. While the gated off street parking was an added bonus ( i.e. not just a spot in front of the house, like many we have stay at, despite advertising 'secure'). The breakfast were cooked by Huw himself and were tasty, especially the freshly cooked muffins - a nice surprise...

By far the best B&B we stayed in in our recent trip around the Cape. Zoe and Huw are outstanding hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are spotless, inviting and beautifully decorated. The location is excellent and a short walk to good restaurants. Highly recommended!

Thank you so much to the super hospitable and welcoming owners Zoe and Hew. Lovely guesthouse and clearly a lot of their time and passion is spent on this place and it really shows as they are the spark that brightens up your day and your stay here. Right next door to lovely Jemimas restaurant so only a short stumble home after a wine infusion. Rooms really comfortable and spotlessly clean. Can't recommend it more highly. Oh and Hew those are the best scrambled eggs i've ever had... hope it all works out for you both you deserve great success.

Room Tip: They all seemed top notch

We stayed at this guesthouse for one night on our way back towards Cape Winelands on Route 62. The guesthouse is in a great location in Oudtshoorn near to some fantastic restaurants within a few minutes walk. Zoe and Huw were so friendly and great hosts, with a cold beer on arrival! They gave us great advice about the local area, where to visit and scenic routes to drive on our route. We had a great trip to Cango Caves and Safari Ostrich Farm. Breakfast was great with lovely homemade muffins! Would highly recommend a visit, wish we'd stayed longer!
