Oudtshoorn is not a place most people stop for more than one night, and we mistakenly followed the herd. Even if you did stay longer, it would not be lounging by the pool as there are so many distractions (wildlife, caves, great views, waterfalls, farms and nearby towns). If you were to stopover longer than an overnight stop, as I would recommend, then you will not go far wrong with Zoe and Huw Thomas' B&B.
It has all the ingredients for an ideal sojourn. Excellent and extremely helpful and genial hosts, easy to find (middle of town), secure parking, close to all the best restaurants Oudtshoorn has to offer, great rooms, clean fresh linen, comfortable bedding and pillows, and a great nourishing breakfast spread to send you on your way. Even a petrol station is just 200m away.
We were briefed on arrival by Huw over a nice cold beer (compliments of the house) on what there was to see and do. Huw's enthusiasm to pass on the information is made more impressive by the fact that most people only stopover for a night! (Maybe all Holyhead people are this nice?). Zoe ensured that everything worked, and we were most happy at being diverted to this B&B by the YotClub which was full.
We had the loft to ourselves (2 adults and 3 boys) and apart from a steep first step to access it, everything was perfect.More
