“Food was good but...”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

We ate the Tandem, which is a choice of two 100 gm fillets of either ostrich, venison or beef and it comes with a choice of potato dish. It was very tasty. The place is somewhat pricey. What bothered us was the way our waiter handled our wine selection. He told us they were out of the wine we selected and he suggested another one. The one he suggested was one we actually tried earlier in the day at the Karusa winery. He brought the wine and we tasted it and said okay. As we sat there and studied the bottle we found out it was not, in fact, the wine he said he was going to bring us. When we brought it to his attention, he did nothing and just looked at us. It just seemed very unaccommodating for the prices we were paying, and almost like we were being "conned" into buying a more expensive wine.

Great atmosphere, great food, friendly staff. They seem to understand what they are doing. A little pricy compared to other South African experiences but worth it.

“Warm fire, warm welcome!”
Reviewed July 27, 2014

By Charley, aged 9:
Lovely atmosphere because of the roaring fire. I loved the waiters; they were very friendly. The food was excellent and I would recommend it! It was probably the best restaurant I went to in the whole of South Africa.

“one step backward”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

We share the sentiments of those who were disappointed with the changes at the restaurant. We visited Jemima's many years ago and this time find ourselves staring down a completely revamped menu now concentrates on meat dishes. Gone are the flairs and varieties, in with the ordinary and tourists friendly fairs.

The decor and setting are still nice. Service, on the other hand, left a lot to be desired. The waitress forgot to top up the taster's glass after going through everyone else, with both bottles! It was difficult to get waitress' attention for drinks and orders and the coffee I ordered never came- and it wasn't busy. The steaks were done decently but not exceptional. Long intervals between courses- fine for romantic pair, not so for family with kids.

All in all, a very middling experience.
