The best place in Cape Town !Paul and Helen (the owners) as well as all their staff makes you feel so welcome. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, the view is "to die for".Have been going there for so many years and has never been disapointed.Everything is perfect. There is not many dog friendly places in Cape Town.We have always taken our dogs with and always felt very welcome.Well done and keep it up!Cape Town people need you!

Wife and I were looking for something nice for a casual evening out. Situated just outside Fish Hoek is the Red Herring, it's a bar and restaurant . First off the place was jumping, lots of local people having drinks and dinner. We were able to squeeze in for an awesome friday night pizza, there was also seafood properly cooked. The restaurant is in a building overlooking the amazing Nordhoek beach, fantastic for sundowners and watching sport

We go to Noordhoek every year and always try the Red Herring (absolutely brilliant pizzas; providing they actually give you the right one!!!). So 5 star for their take away pizza.

BUT, don't go there if you want an enjoyable evening meal in their restaurant. This year we had the absolute worst evening meal during our stay; we even told. what we thought was the owner, but he just could not care less. We were the only ones in the restaurant (we know why!!) and a simple meal took 45 mins to reach the table. The sauce was inedible, but it was already all over the meal and that was covered in grease. Almost, did not pay, but felt sorry for them - don't ask me why!!!

I mentioned that we go to Noordhoek each year and last year (2010) we had the experience of getting back to our B&B to find that we had 2 different pizzas to that what was ordered.

The year (2009) before that, the service was so slow I even collected up our plates and took them to the kitchen!!! Again, there were only a couple of tables occupied.

There have been a couple of good meals, but with a 25% success rate there are far too many other places to go to bother coming to the Red herring again!!!

over the month we lived in simonstown (we are there everyyear)we visited the red herring 5 times the food always was good when it arrived (we ended up timing how long it took) the wine dissproportiant to the cost of food .the front of house staff were good but you could feel the tension of what ever was going on in the kitchen in front of house staff .the manager was never there and very often large parts of the menu were unavailable no email to contact them so they need to have someone incharge at front of house sort out the kitchen and bring down the cost of the wine and stop the dogs roaming in the restaurant
