Just the two of us enjoyed a wonderful meal...superb lamb rack and kidney and equally good lamb pie. Accompanied by a glass of Hartenberg Merlot which was heavenly. Very efficient service. The addition of vegetables or a larger portion would have gone down well.

“Very, very good!”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Joined friends for a wonderful meal. Our party ordered a wide range of starters, mains and desserts and everyone very impressed. My springbok ravioli starter was ons of the best ever, and the kidney and lamp pie main not far behind. Service was professional and knowleagable but slightly impersonal. The food is complimented by an extensive winelist, incl many imported wines, and "by the glass" options.

“Deli Review”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

Love the setting, love the atmosphere. Love the open kitchen, at times feel nice a vibey. Some of the waitresses were a bit clueless about their menu offerings. Food was good, but not great. This place has so much potential. Love to see the little shop stock only local offerings, and skip all the big brand commercial food manufactures, it just does not suit the shop area. Wish the food was on par with the atmosphere. Hope they can improve!

“World class”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

After having been away for far too long, we returned to the Foodbarn for lunch yesterday. Five of us in the party. What a meal. Every plate beautifully presented, with a mix of flavors that is sheer culinary genius. The recommended wine pairings are spot on too. The price is embarrassingly low, with their winter specials currently running. Where else in the world could you lunch at an equivalent to a Michelin starred restaurant, and have the menu at half price, during the week? Or R185 for a three course meal, including wine? My fish tartare was superb, served with three prawns, each in a dollop of mayonnaise, with a hint of cumin. The prawn tempura and avocado tian was great, although the tempura wasn't quite as crispy as we are used to. Still, great flavors. And the two desserts shared by the table were wolfed down. I can really recommend the risotto dessert. Toe curlingly good. This restaurant beats anything I have visited in South Africa, and just about any top restaurant in the world. Do yourself a favor, and get there. You won't be disappointed.
