“An idyllic experience”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

My husband and I made use of the "Honeymoon Special" towards the end of September 2013, and we had an unbelievable time at the Lofts. The view of the Lagoon from our room was breathtaking, the amenities were lovely and the staff did everything they could to make our stay memorable. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a 5-star experience in one of the most idyllic locations in South Africa!

Room Tip: The "Lagoon Charm" room is spacious, has a king-sized bed and a spectacular view of the la...

If you are looking for a place to be completely comfortable and feel like your not in an impersonal hotel, this is your spot!
I'm inlove with The Lofts as I always leave with a sense of sadness because my stay is always too short. Even waking to the smell of the freshly baked bread from the bakery close buy adds to the "home" feeling.
For someone who travels a lot and comes into contact with MANY types of impersonal spaces, The Lofts always makes me feel at home.

The rooms are fully sometimes over equipped and there isn't a shortage of anything.

Plus its located in Knysna!! Can't go wrong with that!!

Try it, you won't be sorry...

We arrived at the door to enquire about rates and got quite a reduction which brought it to within our price range. It really was exceptional. The room had three large picture windows which overlooked the bay - the water lapping just below. The bathroom was within the room - a bath with wash basins on either side and beyond a glass shower with two shower jets!
We met three girls at the reception desk during our two night stay and they were are very friendly and helpful.
We were surprised upon booking our B&B stay that breakfast was not served within The Lotfs itself but rather we were given a voucher to take to some nearby restaurants. Initially we were disappointed by this but we were very soon reassured on the first morning when we were directed to Ile du Pain next door. What a treat! They had a breakfast menu that far outstripped any hotel's. And it was absolutely delicious. The voucher was very generous and more than covered what we ordered. The next morning we were sent to the Island Cafe in the Turbine Hotel. Although it did not have the ambiance of the Ile du Pain, their breakfast menu too was very extensive but for us the continental spread more than satisfied our needs. Again our voucher was valued at more than we could eat.
The situation of The Lofts Hotel, although on Thesen Island, is very central to all that one would want to do in Knysna. It is a beautiful and unusual building in a most idyllic spot. We would thoroughly recommend it as a special place to stay.

Spacious room with special designs in different rooms. If you want sea view, then book those just right next to the sea, they are smaller as compared to those without views. 12 of us stayed there last month and we booked a total of 6 rooms, all different designs. Staff were friendly. Place is safe and quiet. Restaurants within walking distance serve great varieties of food.
Breakfast vouchers were given for us to visit nearby restaurants. English breakfast served and food is ample, great ambience and staff. We will love to stay there again.

Room Tip: If you are on a honey moon trip, choose those rooms with sea view. If family of 2 or more, choose th...

This hotel has very interesting architecture, it is said to be a rebuilt boathouse. The rooms are very spacious with excellent comforts. Each room has a large balcony with deck chairs. There are many exciting details about this place. In the lobby, there are complimentary drinks and some snacks, all very nice. Breakfast was served in an adjacent restaurant just around the corner. A very good choice with a wide variety of breads. The breakfast voucher was large enough to cover a sumptious breakfast and even allowed us to bring some home made cookies along for the trip

The thing that stands out in my mind about this hotel is how beautiful it was to look at, however, not very practically designed. We had room 1B, which had a great lagoon view and a large balcony. However, the shower/tub and vanity were not enclosed, but open to the room and the mirror on the vanity was at chest height. Again, beautiful to look at, but completely impractical! In the shower, all the water sprayed out everywhere. It reminded me of being in Europe.

I loved the floor heating and the decor was absolutely beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful. You get 18 Rand for breakfast at the nearby restaurants (for 2 people), which was nice.

My only major complaint was the internet. They give you a ticket with a certain amount of megabytes (which I didn't realize) and I ran out in about 30 minutes. I was uploading photos from the trip and had started to skype my kids at home. I went to the front desk and they have me another ticket with a username and password. I ran out again by 8pm and there was no one at the front desk and I had an important meeting on skype, so I purchased internet time. This was the only place where I had to buy internet service.

Our group LOVED The Lofts! Such unique and spacious rooms, decorated beautifully. Clean and comfortable, our loft room had 2 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms and kitchen/living area. We felt spoiled in this gorgeous location and such a fun and funky hotel.

The only issue was that all of the local walking-distance restaurants were closed when we arrived (granted, it was later in the evening) and our large group was all quite hungry by the time we got settled. Thesens Island is lovely, but quite deserted at 10 pm! I made up for it the next day and ate at two restaurants nearby; both were delicious with great service. Good shopping nearby, too!

Breakfast was not provided for our large group of 45 at the hotel, but the renowned Ile de Pain restaurant at the corner of the street offered a deliciously fresh and creative breakfast meal for all of us.
