“Amazing service, perfect venue for intimate weddings, everything you could want!”
Reviewed October 17, 2010

We chose Elephant Hide for a small, intimate wedding with a party of eight. Everything went superbly and we couldn't possibly have had anything better. Louise, the owner, was amazing. Right from the start when we first started enquiring about Elephant Hide as a possible wedding venue, she was so helpful and friendly that we knew it was the right choice for us. She co-ordinated everything for us, from the menu to the ceremony and booking the perfect photographer, minister, florist, make-up artist and hairdresser. Trying to organise a wedding in South Africa from the UK, it was invaluable having someone so experienced and knowledgeable arranging it all for us. She even cooked the most delicious food for the night of our arrival and the wedding reception - better than any restaurant we've ever been to. Along with the rest of the staff (especially Fish), she went above and beyond to make sure everything about our stay was exactly what we wanted and more. The attention to detail meant we could relax knowing that everything would be taken care of to perfection for our special day.

Our party stayed in four separate chalets and everyone was blown away by the accommodation, the service, the location and the delicious breakfasts. The little extras like the iPod docking stations in the rooms made it easy to relax and enjoy. Everything was clean and modern but very cosy and relaxed at the same time, with a huge log fire up in the main lodge for the cold winter months.

All in all, we would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting an amazing holiday, romantic honeymoon or perfect wedding. We wouldn't stay anywhere else if we go back to Knysna (which we hope to do soon). A million thanks to Louise, Ryan, Fish and everyone else who helped make our stay so special.

My wife and I were lucky enough to stay at The Elephant Hide Guest Lodge in Knysna for a couple of nights as we made our way along The Garden Route portion of our South African honeymoon. This family run Lodge was spectacular, from the beautiful private huts overlooking the lagoon/estuary and the town of Belvidere across the way, with their spaciousness, great beds, big chairs, and bathrooms with big, amazing whirlpool tubs and huge double headed showers, to the amazing breakfasts dreamed up by the executive chef and daughter of owner and innkeeper Wendy, who was so lovely, helpful and accommodating. We relaxed, enjoyed the gorgeous scenery, and had so much fun planning and doing amazing things with Wendy's help, who booked an ocean safari for us in Plettenberg Bay, made dinner reservations for us, and told us what not to miss. After the potato pancake topped with scrambled eggs wrapped in smoked salmon with rocket and chive creme fraiche and the cream cheese stuffed French toast topped with raspberry sauce, we didn't want to leave.

Truly a hidden gem. Our party of 8 selected this place for a superbly organised, romantic, cosy wedding. The owners did everything they could to organise the entire event and more, always with a smile.
The breakfast was simply wonderful and the choice is huge -all freshly made on the spot. For lunch and dinner you can order from the different menus of the local restaurants, and they will deliver it to you, even in your room. Otherwise Knysna offers places for eating out.
Their website will tell you the details, but what I can tell you, is that rarely I have experienced such service and attention to the guests.

Our room was absolutely fabulous, breakfasts were great and Ryan the proprietor went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met. We would definitely recommend this B&B and if we return to South Africa we will be sure to stay here again.

This is a gorgeous little hotel. Our room had outstanding views over the knysna lagoon, and a lovely bathroom with a large balcony. It was 1 5 minute drive out of central knysna town, which meant it was very quiet and peaceful. The pool was lovely and shared the great view.
We awoke the following morning to a reallt outstanding breakfast! An all round great hotel!

We had 2 nights here and I wish it had been longer. It is just outside Kynsna looking over the lagoon so very peaceful but a taxi ride into Knysna the guest house will take you in and collect you but do charge a bit over the top for the service.

Each 'Suite' is separate from the others so you are completely private. The rooms are large and airy with a separate dressing area. There are arm chairs to sit and relax in overlooking the lagoon and a private balcony perfect for watching the stunning sunsets.

The bathrooms are wonderful with huge windows with views over the lagoon, the bath is huge and great for a long relaxing candle lit bath. The double shower is wet room style with large windows overlooking the lagoon as well.

The breakfasts were lovely and served on the deck with stunning views.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We found Elephant Hide quite by chance whilst surfing on the internet looking for a possible wedding venue in Knysna, South Africa. From the moment Louise replied to my initial enquiry, we knew this was the place where we wanted to get married! Having a love of Africa, we were looking for an authentic lodge-style venue that could offer us the intimate wedding ceremony we desired. Louise couldn't do enough to help with our plans-she communicated well, offered ideas and nothing was too much trouble. We felt that we could leave it all in her capable, experienced hands.

Arriving at Elephant Hide two nights before our planned wedding, Louise greeted us and went through the final plans. We met with the Pastor and discussed the ceremony, he too was lovely and very flexible allowing us to introduce our own aspects to the service.

The lodge itself is really welcoming and the separate guest lodges with amazing views over the lagoon are so impressive. There is a lot of attention to detail here but Louise, Fish and the staff are really good at making you feel that they want you to decide how you would like things to be done. We were able to order dinner from one of the restaurants downtown to have in the lodge the night before our wedding and Fish served us.

The Wedding Day itself and ceremony were amazing - Louise and the staff really went the extra mile with decoration, flowers and a picnic on the beach after the ceremony with the photographer there to take some lovely beach and sunset shots. Later we had a candlelit supper on the deck and a delicious dinner under the stars. All so romantic, and tastefully done.

We can't wait to go back for another treat at Elephant Hide - hopefully next year. Anyone would love this place because you get a feeling of being truly pampered and that the staff really do want you to have the best. We would add that we felt everything was really good value too for this fantastically personal hospitality.
