Blue Oyster B&B
Ranked #17 of 128 Knysna B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 23, 2012

My boyfriend, Peter & I stayed there for 2 nights in August 2012, drawn by the excellent reviews, and yes, Blue Oyster did not disappoint!

Host – Vanessa is a professional and generous host who gave us great advice on things to do, places to visit, and where to dine at, in and around Knysna. We got an upgrade from a room with a separate but private toilet to one with an adjoining toilet which we were really appreciated.

B&B/room – Blue Oyster is situated on higher grounds where we were treated to a panoramic view of Knysna’s beautiful lagoon, Thesens Island, and The Heads. Interior of the house is a Santorini-inspired white and blue theme, very relaxing, calming, and clean. We were upgraded to the Hydra room with the same magnificent view of the lagoon. The room is spacious, as is the toilet and the ceilings are high which made the room a tad chillier in winter, but we slept well with the comforter and the heater on, so no complaints. Free wifi access is also available around the house.

Food – We had Full English breakfast prepared by Charmaine, an excellent cook. Having over easy eggs cooked to perfection while admiring the gorgeous view of Knysna from the common dining area has to be the best way to start one’s day.

Parking – Private parking lots are available so safety is ensured.

Note – There are quite a bit of stairs in the house so it would not be advisable if you are unfit for stairs. Excessive luggage is also not ideal so we actually packed a separate lighter weight luggage and left the rest in the car.

With a comfortable stay, great hosts, and a superb view, Blue Oyster definitely lived up to the reviews!

We had a one night stop over, making our way along the Garden Route. This was a great B&B to stay with spectacular views overlooking beautiful Knysna. Very clean and comfortable, with very helpful, friendly service. The only down side was we wish we could have stayed longer.
We would definitely stay here again!!

And what a view it is ! overlooking Knysna and looking out towards the heads. This was the perfect setting for our 1 night stop in Knysna as we made our way along the garden Route.
The Blue Oyster sits high above the town with spectacular views. The rooms were all excellent and individual. The bathrooms were of a generous size and well equiped. Vanessa was the perfect hostess giving us advice on what to see in the limited time we had available. When selecting a restaurant for the evening Vanessa came up trumps with a restaurant on the island which supplied a complimentary taxi service. We were greeted in the morning by the smiling face of Charmaine who cooked and served us breakfast. For breakfast there was a good selection of fruit and pastries and for those who wanted it a full english. The standard of the rooms, the setting, along with the perfect hostess made this one of the highlights of our trip.

This B/B is rated as 4**** this is rubbish, it should be at least 5***** we stayed in the Mykonos room for 2 nights 18/19 September, the views of the knysna town & lagoon are spectacular, the room was very large and extremely clean, the bathroom was huge, with an excellent shower and bath, breakfast was very good & substantial
Vanessa was the perfect host assisted by the charming Charmaine a good combination.
without doubt the best B/B on our tour of Southern Africa

This B&B simply has to be the best B&B we've stayed in, and we've stayed in some beauties! I cannot find a single negative about it. We stayed in the Santorini Room. The view is spectacular, the rooms are equally spectacular and spotlessly clean. The breakfasts are great, and Vanessa and Charmaine charming, helpful and welcoming. The bed was so comfy we didn't want to get up in the mornings, and the attention to details - lavender flowers everywhere etc - was brilliant. A lovely little veranda where we sat in awe of the beauty of Knysna (we have been many times, but still love the place).
My one point - and it's no negative, just valid - there are a lot of stairs, so if you battle with stairs there could be a problem. In saying that I DO battle with stairs, but still can't say anything bad about the place. Thank you Vaness and Charmaine for a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: If you battle with stairs ask for the room with the bathroom on the same level - the other room has...

Everyone's rave reviews about Blue Oyster are right on target! My husband and I spent three nights in the lovely Mykonos room and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The room was HUGE with a big bathroom (big shower and separate soaking tub), closet area, and a balcony with a table for two with a gorgeous view overlooking the Heads. The common areas of the house are also lovely with amazing views of Knysna. Vanessa is a wonderful host and we enjoyed talking with her. Charmaine was great in the kitchen--full English breakfast cooked to your liking. Vanessa was also helpful with restaurant suggestions--J.Js is a must when you are in Knysna!!
The only damper to our stay was the unusually cold winter weather which made the room a little chilly at night--so if you are visiting during the winter season, pack some wooly p.j.s! Otherwise, you cannot go wrong with a stay at this amazing property with an amazing host in an amazing location!!

Room Tip: The Mykonos room is the best and worth a splurge!
