nice views, on low tide you can wade quite far into the lagoon, refreshing on those hot days. ferry can take a while to fill up before they cast off.

“In Paradise at the Lagoon”
Reviewed January 25, 2013

Surely, one of the most special locations in the world. The lagoon is expansive but the water level
is only around three to four feet at high tide. The scenery is beautiful with the Heads and the beach area around Leisure Island is almost perfect. Many people ( but not too many) exercise by walking
on the sands of the lagoon and running / walking around Leisure Island.

The bird watching is also excellent with many species including the Knysna Turaco.

We preferred it to any of the Caribbean islands that we have visited.

“You can't go to Knysna and not go to the Lagoon!”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

Take a boat ride from Knysna Harbour out into the Lagoon and to the mouth of the Heads where it meets the sea. It's calm and peaceful with lovely local scenery. Look for the millionaire's houses built overlooking the water. I can guarantee you'll want to move there!

Was rented a speedboat for an hour and went through the lagoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. Best rental location was near the quays

“Knysna lagoon - varied and splendid everywhere”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

My best experience - drinking beer and eating LOTS of oysters at the waterfront. But the lagoon is so, much more than just that. Knysna Heads impressive and scary, take a boat ride to see more. Towards the mouth (heads) the water is clear and blue, further inland muddy and river like. But scenic everwhere. Marvel at those lucky folk who live on Leisure Isle (old money, old wealthy lifestyle together with a country club!) or see how some visionary entrepeneurs transformed the eyesore of Knysna, Thesens (industrila) Island, into a development of townhouses, canals, with some restaurants and shops. Probably the best way to really see the lagoon and to explore it is with a houseboat, in which you can cruise around and explore all areas. I have done this a couple of times over the years but not recently, You probably need a about a week for houseboating
