Difficult to fault what is a really great outing. The ferry trip was exciting for my daughter and the 2.2km walk felt like 100m because it goes though the most stunning scenery. The lunch at the end of the walk was also fabulous. On the way back we saw a fisheman land a fish and congratulated him with a round of applause. A brilliant day indeed

Just being on the water approaching Knysna Heads is great. Our guide was very knowledgeable. A truck takes you to the top of the Head and you have a short walk back down. The nature reserve itself is limited. But the view across the Heads and back into the lagoon makes it.

Dear Happyday 68

Thank you for visiting us at the Featherbed Nature Reserve. We regret that you found the nature reserve "limited". Perhaps you were expecting a game experience which we do not advertise.

We are more than happy to recommend some stunning Game Reserves in the area, please feel free to contact us directly on sales@featherbed.co.za.

The boat trip across from the ferry point is about half an hour then a 4x4 trip to the top. It's then a 2.2km walk back down but much of this is through woodland so enjoy the views of the heads and coast when you get them. Not quite sure what we expected but came away slightly disappointed.

Dear 141AndyS

Thank you for your review. We are not quite sure what you expected either as you have experienced the unspoilt, undeveloped, natural heritage site, The Western Headland of Knysna, commonly known as The Featherbed Nature Reserve. It has and will always be our intention to keep the reserve in its pristine most natural state and therefore do not remove any flora to enable better sea views, but rather prefer them to be the spectacular surprize "sights" that they are.

We didn't look at TA reviews before going and we'd never set foot in Knysna before booking it but it wasn't the "eco-experience" we were expecting, essentially it's a short boat trip across the estuary, a ride up the hillside and short walk back down again. It was very busy - a large organised German tour group was included; and I guess that was the reason that Ali's commentary was a bit ponderous; it seems the local accented English is difficult for non-native English speakers to comprehend. But we were blessed by superb weather and a very favourable exchange rate, plus the hot buffet lunch at the park lodge was very nice, so it was an agreeable enough thing to do on a Sunday in March, and reasonably inexpensive. The most interesting fact is that the Reserve was purchased and created from the profits of the book J L B Smith wrote about the discovery of the "prehistoric" Coelacanth fish, and there is an interesting display of his artefacts at the Lodge.
