Check their web site to see what the visit entails. Plenty of walking back down "the mountain" - but you are transported up there.
Great views, lots of nature to see.
Well worth the trip which includes a very good meal

“Views To Take Your Breath Away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

Our second visit to Featherbed.
You are taken to the top of Featherbed by transportation then left to take the walk down with the assistance of a guide.
The views over Knysna and the lagoon are spectacular but remember to put on your walking shoes and take some water with you.
At the bottom of Featherbed you are served a buffet lunch which is adequate before the lovely boat ride across the lagoon.
All through this trip we found the guides to be extremely informative and very hospitable.

“A one view trail”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

Before you embark upon this trip, you need to be well aware of what you are committing to. It is a small nature reserve on one side of a steep (Western) headland of Knysna accessed by boat and then a trailer ride to the top of the headland. The boat trip is pleasant enough and the guide informative and amusing, I think about 15 minutes to cross the lagoon. You disembark and onto the trailers. The ride up is enjoyable and there is much talk about the animal life but it is unlikely you will see any. Most of the route obscures the views by bushes and trees to one degree or another but there are vantage points at which the trailer stops so you can get pictures. At the peak, there seemed nothing much, just a disembarking/turning point. Here you have a choice to walk down the hill via the forest path or return in the trailers.

Now if you have anything other than a mild walking disability, take the trailers back. The 2+ kilometre walk down can be very tricky in places and difficult. There are a lot of uneven steps and the paths are not “made up”, remember you are walking through a natural forest. At various places down the hill, there are vantage points and the views are superb but do not underestimate the access paths. At all stages of your progression up and down the headland you are viewing the same scene from different perspectives, the Eastern headland. The best part by far is the final stretch along the beach where the going has been made easy by walkways and paths.

At the end of your walk you arrive at the bar where you can purchase drinks and they also do catering. I got the impression the catering may be provided as part of a pre-booked package rather than a café but I could be wrong here. Nevertheless, a pleasant shaded place to recover from your walk before your return boat ride.

Overall, well worth a visit I think.

“Beautiful views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2014

A leisurely boat ride takes you from Knysna to Featherbed Nature Preserve. The preserve is filled with lush, rich plant life. A vehicle takes you up the steep mountain to the top which affords you stunning views of the coastline. The hike to the bottom is steep in places and some of the viewpoints are on tricky paths but don't skip any of them, especially the steps down to the caves. The final path back to the start is along the coastline. It is such a beautiful, unique experience. I LOVED IT.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2014

Amazing trip, the nature is treating us with its best views in the reserve. It is a truly special place. The boat trip and then the walk were very entertaining as well as, thanks to our guide Ally, very informative. Thanks to Ally's unique style of guiding we have enjoyed very much. A truly unique experience. Not to forget that the food in their restaurant was yummy , the staff friendly and professional. Congratulations to the restaurant manager Micheal for incredible service offered.
