“A Must Do whilst in Knysna”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

A Paddle Steamer Cruise on the Knysna lagoon towards the ultimate hike up towards the Heads. It's a tourists dream come true in terms of the beauty and calm waters of the Lagoon. Once you reach the Featherbed Reserve, you have a choice of a paying lunch once back from the hike down the top of the lookout of Eastern Head, from where one can marvel at the extreme beauty of the Indian Ocean with it's cliff side mountains running all along the ocean bed, and of Leisure Isle. It's about a 3 hour trip if one includes a fabulous lunch set on the decks of the Feather bed Reserve.

“Blue Cranes behind bars”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 22, 2013

We greatly enjoyed our hiking and dining experiences, with spectacular views and a wealth of information about the area from our guide Debbie, but we were distressed to see the Blue Cranes locked up in cages. As a nature reserve, we expected to see all of the animals free in their environment. We understand for their safety that at night they should be penned, but during the day they surely deserve freedom to roam.

Hi Megan

Thank you for your comment, it is valued but please do note the cage for the blue cranes (Anthropoides paradiseus) is open during the day for them to move freely in and out and they go as they please. Their food and water is kept inside the cage and the cranes (affectionately known as William & Jenny) will move in and out of the cage during the day they are not confined to this space.

It is only at night that it becomes necessary to close the cage to protect them from the predators such as Caracal which roam the reserve and become active at night.

Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact us should your require any further information.

“A Tourist Highlight”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

A must do trip for a visitor to Knysna. Have lunch at the Cruise Cafe, board the Paddle Steamer and enjoy drinks while cruising the Lagoon to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, where you disembark and walk in a group around the edges of the Lagoon to see the views of the Heads and then maybe take the tractor ride to the top where you get a bird's eye view of the East and West Head and the coastline and surrounding hills of Knysna. Pity the local residents cannot enjoy this attraction which has now become too expensive for their pockets!!

“Across the lagoon”

One gets an ideal view of Knysna's best scenery and a fabulous South African lunch. Perhaps it has become a little pricey, but they often run afternoon trips where you do not have the expense of the meal

“Stunning views, standard buffet.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2013

The views are really stunning, and I prefer it there, overlooking the trees/rocks/ocean from the top of the Kysna head, as well as the flat stretch on the return, with the beautiful water, compared to the view from the town/harbor area.

The ferry ride, drive up the hill, and the walk down were all beautiful and kept the experience interesting, and the guides do tell you some interesting information along the way. The walk down is not difficult, and there is an "optional" further walk down to the cave, which should be fine for most people.

The buffet was standard, and actually didn't meet my expectation in terms of food variety, but the taste was good -- drinks not included. Also, it can get pretty windy/chilly in the table area, since it's shaded.
