“RESTFUL AND BEAUTIFUL”

We would not hesitate to return to Under the Milkwood in Knysna as we so enjoyed our stay in February. The wooden chalets were confortable and the beds ultra good. It was appreciated to have someone cleaning up n a daily basis and this added to the experience. Beautiful walks and swims at our feet.
Gorgeous views nas delicious reataurants. I specially enjoyed suing the lovely range of Le Creuset which was in the cottage.

Fantastic place - with very nice houses.....the houses are very nice and clean. They are placed more or less directly to the beach. Perfect no matter it's with your Family, friends or for a weekend with your beloved.

We booked a waterfront cabin (Manchester) and were really impressed with the facilities. The staff were very friendly on arrival and ensured the baby camping cot was in the second bedroom (a tight fit between the two single beds, but the kids didn't seem to mind). I loved the Le Creuset goodies in the kitchen (and the pop-up shop on site offered a 10% discount to guests). The main bedroom had an amazing view onto the lagoon/estuary and a door opening onto the timber deck (the trees provided great shade). There were a handful of steps from our deck to the water! There was outdoor furniture on our deck as well as on the area right on the water's edge below our patio (and sun loungers down there too). A unique aspect is the kayaks you get to use (single or double) - we took a paddle on the water in a double kayak with the 3-year-old in the middle and the 1-year-old on the front. They had life jackets to use as well as a host of other water and sand 'toys'. The kids had a blast at low tide playing in the sand and swimming in the shallows. One negative would be the parking down at the bottom units - it's a bit of a tight squeeze when all the units are in use and if you're arriving in two cars, you'd need to park one in the off-street top parking (or municipal parking lot opposite the facility). On the whole though, a really magical experience and comes highly recommended!

Great location and friendly staff. good if you have your car so you can go to the city for meals (they don't have restaurant).
The cons is that they don't have A/C in the chalet and they don't provide Free WIFI.

We stayed in one of the Waterfront self catering chalets and had the most incredible time. Upon arrival we were given champagne and chocolates and the reception staff were very friendly. The chalets themselves are beautiful and filled with every modern convenience. The chalets are a few steps away from the lagoon and took full advantage of the kayaks for use. We were beyond happy with our stay and I would recommend this experience to everyone from couples to families with children.

I recently had a foot op and booked at Under Milkwood knowing that getting around would be tricky. The top row of cabins would mean the equivalent of 3 flights of stairs to get to the lagoon, and back up again. The bottom row cabins, right on the lagoon, were way too expensive in peak season (when we went). So we took the middle row which was just enough. But be warned, the driveway is cobbled and slopped. and slippery when wet (it rained while we were there). So is the access to the lagoon. There are some railings which certainly helped.

Parking - our unit did not have parking next to it, that parking was up at street level with the top cabins' parking - so my husband had to collect the car, then me, to go out. Management were very understanding and let us park in the bay of the next door cabin when it was vacated.

Perks - we paid one hell of a price over peak season as expected, which is no surprise for over priced South African accommodation. Hence I was a little surprised to find a complimentary nothing - bar the soap. Not a shampoo, body cream or even a bubble bath. Oh well, times are tough I guess.

Le Crueset - However the kitchen is well stocked with le crueset which I can't decide if it's a good or bad thing. Great to use the product but knowing the price of a coffee mug I was loathed to use it for fear of dropping it and being charged breakage. It was a treat to use the frying pans though (Under Milkwood are agents). Having said that, I don't think I would buy other le crueset products, it was too much and perhaps a bit over kill.

Last word - Under Milkwood is great, the units are serviced and cleaned daily, the staff friendly and the access to the lagoon perfect for a family with small children. Just beware the peak season price (way overpriced), and the middle row cabins are on top of each other, and on top of the driveway. But don't let that put you off. If the weather is good you won't spend too much time in the cabin

Room Tip: The only cabins that are REALLY private are the top ones, where you don't have anyone walking pa...

We were absolutely, completely and 100% happy with our stay. The chalet was perfect, the service was perfect. We were so close to the lagoon, the waterfront and a walk away from the Heads. Thank you!!
