Description: Type of Cuisine - South African Part of Kilzers Kitchen Cookery School - this restaurant operates on Wednesday evenings only for the public. The format is basically as follows : Our guests 19:00 in the evening - bringing along their own wife and their own wine ....no corkage charges at all ( for the wife or the wine ). These dinners are hosted weekly ( Wednesdays) from the beginning of November - end of April annually. Upon arrival guests are welcomed by our waiters ( as we are frantically busy in the kitchen )--- and given appetizers to nibble on, as well as a "welcome drink" - at present our flavour of the Month - a home made Limoncello - to warm them up on a cold Winter's evening, or cool them down on a hot summer's evening. At approximately 7:30 for 7:45 we welcome all our guests to the open-plan kitchen, where we give them a complete run-down re: the dinner for the evening. Starters & main courses are prepared in full view of the guests as they congregate around the kitchen area, along with our famous joke telling - a bit of "Kitchen Theatre". After this guests return to their individual tables, ( laid up as per customer reservation ), and the meal commences with a starter, followed by main course ,dessert, coffee/ tea and biscuits to end the meal. Everything edible is prepared in our kitchen - including the apperitif, as already mentioned. All in all, it is an evening celebrating food, more food, fun, and of course, the guest's own choice of wines - which are sometimes dodgy, other times magnificent - all depending on individual taste. The atmosphere is a party atmosphere, and the noise level is generally high and festive.........Enjoyment of the evening is up to you. We would love to welcome you and look forward to a visit from you and whoever you wish to bring along.............wife, lover, mother- in- law............. We cater for any special requests, e.g vegetarians, gluten intolerant or any other food allergies. Please advise beforehand.

“Once Just Isn't Enough!”

This best kept secret remained just that on our first trip to Knysna six years ago but we soon discovered what has become a firm bolt-hole. Indeed, it has such a pull that we now rent one of their delightful apartments for the majority of our SA holdiay. Wednesday nighs there are an absolute MUST and have become something of an addiction for us. Witnessing the preparation for this eating extravaganza is really quite awe inspiring. Nothing seems to faze them! One review mentioned the tuile biscuits. I am sure most places would just buy them in but not Jenny - each one made and rolled out with loving care. She even puts messages on some!

Everything they rustle up starting with innovative nibbles to fish delivered straight from the sea an hour before you consume it to Albin's incredible "smoked" fillet of beef is top notch and executed with great aplomb. But this isn't just about great food. It's about the setting, the atmosphere, the attention to detail, the sense of fun which they generate. You won't have been to anything quite like it so book it and I guarantee that once just won;t be enough!

“Outstanding eating experience”
Reviewed February 3, 2012

From the reception to the dessert this was a wonderful evening. Kilzer's Kitchen provides an outstanding, high quality yet affordable dining experience with a magical mix of tastes, entertainment and excellent friendly service. The genuine warmth of the hosts, Albin and Jenny, rounded off a memorable meal. All the courses were delicious: we had two starters - one of which was the best calamari we had tasted for a long time. I loved the dressing which contained fresh coriander and sweet chilli sauce. This was followed by outstanding kingklip with a Cape Malay touch. The superb main course consisted of three different cuts of well-aged and expertly steak and vegetables. The coup de grace of this outstanding culinary experience was the dessert which consisted of lemon tart, fresh fruit and home-made mango ice cream. This course was beautifully presented with a tuile forming a connection between the various flavours of the dessert. Every course added to and enhanced the tastes and flavours experienced in the previous one. We travel much and can honestly say this was one of the best and most enjoyable meal we have ever had.

“A comical evening with fabulous food”
Reviewed November 28, 2011

If you’re in Knysna on a Wednesday night you simply have to book a table at KKB for an evening of “Cook & Look” with husband and wife team, Jenny & Albin Kilzer. You are guaranteed to experience a comical evening of fabulous food and abundant entertainment! Jenny is a multi-tasker of note. She is capable of delivering outstanding stand-up comedy whilst effortlessly whipping up a chocolate soufflé for dessert that is literally “to die for…”

The food is amazing – and they are not shy with their servings either. On several occasions I have enjoyed Albin’s Karoo lamb, which he sources himself and cooks to perfection. The fish curry is also a winner – I am starting to drool at the thought of it. KKB are very particular over food provenance – they prefer to source their own ingredients and use only fresh, local produce.

Jenny puts great effort into setting the scene and the tables are always beautifully laid with colourful glasses, candles and decorative objects. The service is warm and friendly throughout the four course dinner. Take along your own wine, or buy a bottle or two once you’re there.

KKB is located in a quiet suburb of Knysna, overlooking the lagoon and Salt River. Make sure you book, this is an evening you don’t want to miss out on.
