Owner description: The well-known Elephant Walk at Diepwalle starts and ends at the Diepwalle Forest Station, the "Mecca" of the Knysna forests. The walk offers a number of route options (7km, 8km & 9km). The area is regularly visited by the Knysna elephants but the chance of sighting of these animals is very slight. Currently there are only one elephant left in the forest. The trails are open between 6h00 and 18h00

“The highlight - so far”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

We had a truly amazing time with the elephants and intend going back again before we go back home. We were taught so much in a short space of time, walked with these beautiful, gentle animals and the elephants allowed us to examine them close up. I really liked the fact that as this is a sanctuary they will be released into the wild in about 5 years. As they have become as a family, although not related, they have to wait until thelast one is ready for release before they can all go. We were offered a ride on an elephant but as we don't really approve of using animals like that we didn't take them up on the offer. One down point though, it is very expensive and, although they offer you complimentary tea or coffee, there are no catering facilities for anything to eat.
