Pembreys is by far one of the best bistros in the Western Cape. If thoughtful, local, tasty cuisine is what you're after, this is your destination. Think food story, organic, delicious and superb detail and we'll be on the same page. In fact, all visitors coming to the Garden Route area should put this at the top of their dining experience wish list. The wine list is superb and showcases wines from a variety of wine regions in South Africa and will suit various budgets. Better still, ask your hosts Viv and Pete for their wine pairing recommendation.(Viv handles front of house with warmth and elegance but chef Pete pops out of the kitchen when he has a moment to touch base with his seated patrons). A lit fire adds to the ambience and the staff are well trained and friendly. It was a rainy Autumn evening when my father and I popped in, but our 'falling off the bone' lamb shank and 24hr marinated melt in the mouth oxtail really hit the spot and we left feeling rather content and delighted actually and that some part of that continuous nostalgic longing for home had been satisfied.
