Owner description: Visit Pledge Nature Reserve in the heart of Knysna to view indigenous plants to the area and some history. Before Knysna was officially named a town, it was made up of small settlements, one of which was Newhaven, just east of today’s Long Street – the lo g straight roadthat bisects the town and runs down to Thesen Island.

“Good views of the lagoon”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

The entrance to this has changed since we last visited but still easy to find. Interesting paths with lovely fynbos and flowers as you walk up to the crest of the hill. Once there some very good views over the town and out to the lagoon. We were very lucky to spot the elusive Loerie in amongst the trees!

Peaceful and tranquil even though in the centre of town. Has great variety of fynbos. Ideal for birdwatchers. Saw famous pink loeries there.

“Pledge Nature Reserve”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Situated just behind Knysna's Main Road Pledge has a great choice of natural habitats: forest, wetland, fynbos.Beautiful indigenous plant species, cool ponds and streams and a wonderful range of birds, including the Knysna Turaco (Loerie) can be seen in a lovely walk through the various areas of the reserve. From the top there is a great view of the famous Knysna Heads. The Reserve is well maintained and safe for tourists. A good place to visit in any season.

“Hugely underrated, boutique reserve!”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

What a hidden gem! This is a beautifully maintained, slice of knysna forest, right in the heart of the Knysna town. Countless paths and hidden benches makes this an accessible retreat that will tweak your interest to return and explore more. Very few people visit here, which is a shame, but means that you can enjoy this piece of paradise on your own, most of the time. It's safe, clean and provide parking, toilets, drinking water and panoramic views of the famed Knysna Heads.

“A gorgeous place to walk located near town!”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

When we asked about trails at the visitors center, the employee told us about a park that we had to drive to. However, when we looked at the map she gave us, we noticed the Pledge Nature Reserve and decided to give it a try. We didn't have much time, but saw that the place had possibilities so we brought another couple back to try again the next day. What a pleasant, enjoyable place for a stroll! The most difficult part of the walk was getting there up the hill. Once we got to the Reserve, however, the trails were not steep since they meandered back and forth up and down the hills. The Circle in the Forest trail was tranquil and beautiful. We heard lots of birds and saw many flowers, plants, and trees.
