“Friendly Service & Beautiful Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2012

The lodge is situated in a lovely location with stunning views of the knysna lagoon. With the lodge being situated just as you enter Knysna, it gave you that relaxing feeling of being away from it all but still close enough to the Knysna town. The hosts were extremely hospitable and friendly. They provided good ideas and advice as to where to go and what to do in the surrounding areas. This certainly exnhanced our experience. The room we stayed in at the manor house was spacious, clean, well furnished with that antique feel, but still very comfortable. The few complaints on the room was that there was only a bathtub with a hand shower, lack of tv channels and we could hear activity from reception through the walls/floors, with our room being above the reception. Die Gieter resturant on the premises offers a good selection of food and you can see the friendly service of the hosts rubbing off on the waiters in the resturant. The owners have only had the lodge for a few months and based on our visit, we expect great things in the future.

The Knysna Riverside Lodge has an Old World Charm, overlooking the beautiful view of the Lagoon, situated on a 25 Hectare Nature Reserve, PEACE ON EARTH!!!
The staff are very friendly and helpful, making you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.

The rooms have beautiful antique furniture and are neat and clean, but lack some attention to detail.

Overall, it is very good value for money and we enjoyed our stay and will go back again. Having a very good restaurant on the premises,Die Gieter, which caters for everyone's taste, providing very tasty, good food - serving Breakfast,Lunch & Dinner making it a great place to stay.

We were really impressed by the beauty of the location, and the fairytale lodge that completed the setting. The friendliness of the staff and service! We also have to mention how impressed we were with the restaurant "die Gieter", that forms part of the lodge! Great food and atmosphere, and that boboti samosas! To die for! We will be back soon!

As I understood from locals the place is under new ownership so therefore I'm not going to write a 2000 word review, but all I want to say is that the rate you get charged pppn is ridiculous for what this lodge is offering! And the photos of the rooms we saw on different websites are bit misleading. The lady and gent at reception was very nice and helpful!

I gave the location a 2 as we are not really people who will sit on a deck the whole day and look over the lagoon. The white linen, towels and pillows in our room are definitely not brand new! I know what white linen, towels and pillows feels and look like after 6 months and I can assure you, the ones we got are used for many, many years! Soggy soap in the shower of the people stayed in the room before. Plugs not enough in the room! You must plug out the TV if you want to make coffee! What a disappointment the bottled water provided in the room was..tap water placed in a blue bottled which has been used and filled several times. If I paid R100 pppn for this place, I wouldn't complained, but as mentioned above, rates are way too much! Maybe one day I will come back to see if things changed, but I doubt that!

They will have to evaluate their lodge often as Knysna do offer a lot of nice places to stay to see whether they are on the right track!

They say first impressions last… The Knysna Riverside Lodge Re-define this saying! At our arrival we were excited about the location first of all: Right next to the Lagoon and a well maintained historical building on the edge of the forest. The friendly reception was most impressive witch made us feel at home immediately, nothing better than meeting friendly faces after an 8hr drive! We were well informed about the happenings and entertainment happening in Knysna for the weekend and all the goodies the lodge has to offer (forest hike, heated pool, Die Gieter restaurant etc.). The rooms are spacious with a very comfortable bed, loads of packing space and the bath also has Jacuzzi features! Off course taking advantages of this immediately!! With the peaceful and quietness of the surroundings was a decent rest the order of arrival. Nothing like smelling fresh air the moment you step outside… Die Gietter Restaurant has a wooden deck looking over the lagoon, and having breakfast next to a lagoon, watching the sun rise made it a romantic moment every woman dream of. Not to mention the delicious food they serve! Even the staff was exceptionally friendly which makes it so much worth it! If only we had time to stay longer… two nights is definitely too short for everything the Lodge has to offer! But, we are saving a slice of this cake for the next time! I definitely recommend Knysna Riverside Lodge to anyone who longs for a well-deserved, peaceful break away!

We recently spent two nights at the lodge and found it very good. The location was quiet and had beautiful views over the lagoon/estuary; it was just a 2-3 minute drive to downtown Knysna and the rooms were clean and comfortable. We ate breakfast in Die Gieter restaurant both mornings and it was excellent and we also got a resident discount which was much appreciated.
Would definately recommend this lodge and restaurant for anyone looking for a relaxing break away.

What a wonderful stay! Breakfast and dinner was delicious and such a relaxing atmosphere!
Owners provided great advice on the surrounding area and made our stay very comfortable!
Didn't want to leave... Great location (right off the N2), felt very safe,
quiet neighborhood and close to town and other main attractions (you still need a car).
Our room was very clean.
Would definitely stay here again, you have a great establishment, keep up the good work!
